To think just how many and how often these rotten buggers are getting away with it.
From what I understand from that article, in one night, from checking some thousand odd cars on the freeway, they have issued warnings and infringements to about 30 people or more.
This shows that unless the rules are policed, we are not going to stop the crooks from doing the wrong thing.
Just this week I've seen the Fisheries in an area I boat fish, for the first time in over 50 trips and more than 30 years. They didn't stop me or check my catch, but I was glad to at least see them in the area. I'll keep abiding by the fishing rules and regulations (and doing my best to look after our future stocks), but I often wonder just how many aren't, simply because they know the chances of being caught and prosecuted is so slim.
We need better policing at the fishing grounds/ramps. If 30+ people have illegal crab catch on the freeway, the mind boggles as to just many illegal crabbers there were in Mandurah that night/week/year.
yeah , been craying around 15 times this year launching out of perron and palm beach , we go a tad later than most say 730 to maybe 9.30 , havent
seen fisheries once , or been checked for anything. I know they have servailence etc , but totally agree Bluekaiser , not enogh officers , not enough policing
and thats coming from someone who in general doesnt believe in nanny states or too many rules etc , but its not really good enough is it.
well done. need to get more of the ones doing the wrong thing. fines need to be bigger for this all round and no such thing as warnings as we all know the regs and ignorance is no excuse
I've probably done about 30 boat fishing days in the past 12 months, from 3 different popular fishing locations, caught, filleted, eaten or gifted about 50kg of quality fish fillets ... and haven't been checked once by the fisheries. (on one occassion, a fisheries officer left a card on my car requesting fish frames ... not much use as I cook the wings and backbones).
I've also netted, crabbed and beach fished and again never been checked.
My point is, a crab license would only penalise those doing the right thing, who would obligingly pay, while those breaking the rules probably wouldn't pay ... and while they aren't being policed adequately, they have no incentive to pay.
I'm with quadfisher, I don't want to live in a nanny state, but there needs to be appropriate risks of capture and penalties in place to deter people from breaking the rules. As much as I hate speed cameras and I feel I have been unjustifiably pinged by them in the past, I have too admit our roads are safer because of them.
Bloody hell. Was this a week night ? Surely the bells rang loud and clear at the Fisheries office after this event !!!
Hopefully the word gets out amongst the criminal element that we do have a Fisheries that are prepared to fine those who don't want to abide by the rules of society.

Great to see. We did the lights thing last Friday and when putting back all we could see was small crabs, and a fair few of them.
I did wonder if they would do the block again and it is good that they do it but sad that again, there are assholes that do the wrong thing.

Not sure about that
I'm paying a RBFL and I'm not being policed.

I think you're both on the same page in that I assume he is inferring that the crab licence would fund extra enforcement to protect stocks
