Your best fishing moment in 2011?
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Fri, 2011-12-16 12:40
We've had some pretty good fishing stories come through on the forums this year: Till's shortbilled spearfish, the monster hapuka Matt and the boys got down south, chrisp and Daz at CI, some big tailor coming in from the river and northern beaches and some pretty epic plastics sessions.
Overall how would you rate your year of fishing and what was the best session / highlight?
Unfortunately for me fishing has been pretty light on this year but the standout moment would have to be spending a day fishing in Amsterdam. To fish for different species in a different country was pretty unique and something I won't forget in a hurry.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I'm a simpler man than most
I'm a simpler man than most it seems. My fishing highlight was watching all 4 of my boys catch thier PB Bream all in one cracker session during winter. My personal highlight I guess was getting a 6kg Dusky Flathead from the Hawksbury when I went east to see my old man.

Next 2 weeks..........?, so far was tying a couple of figure 8 droppys straight off the braid in a hurry to re-rig (much to the amusement of the skipper LOL) then managing to bring up and gaff a 4 foot Bronzy a split second after he bit through the 1st and 2nd droppy and heading for freedom.......got both hooks back and 2 months worth of food :)

Probably the most memerable
Probably the most memerable was an over nighter at shoal with brucester where it blew up to strong to come home it was freezing cold and we spent the whole time huddled around the fire in the pissing rain. But fish wise probably the 26 GT's to 28kg's at the Monties with PB in two days. Spearing my first spaniard, my son catching a dimond scale mullet half his size ( he is two) and his sister catching a sting ray, first fish to stretch her arms at age 6. But this has been my first year owning my own boat and most of my trips out have been awesome fun.
I live with fear every day... sometimes she lets me go fishing.

mackeral islands trip
hitting the mackies and getting blown out but deciding to go out in 25 knotts plus driving the boat into the waves whilst dropping the rods hovering on the spot and bagging out whilst the rest of the crew sat home thinking we were tucked behind the island catching queenies! then coming in and asking for a hand to fillet the esky full off fish! the look on the guys faces was priceless

Skippy up
Not a big one But a fun one. Me my wife and a mate out at hale reef. Easily 30+ skippy in the 45-55cm range. Kept 10. Then coming into to weed beds at Hillary's and pulling in a few flatties and I'd say up to 100 herring, garries, whiting, plus a nice kg. was an epic day with a great feed for the family at the end of it.
Id be happy if every day out was like that. Fish every drop.

My Quobba trip in may, on
My Quobba trip in may, on garthies hooked onto a big tuna was fighting it for about 15 minutes then as the fish gave in and not even 5 meters of the rock, a big bronzie launched itself out of the water with my fish, got the head back which weighed 8 kgs.
