I think it will take a long long time for the fishing to recover from the fish kills that has occurred over there poor buggers. What is real bad is that there may not be a quick cure for the problem and it could get worse before it gets better. From what I have read murry cod are a slow growing species and the likely hood of the species recovering this decade is very slim indeed

Very sad state of affairs
Very sad state of affairs over there for sure.
there,s no quick fix for the mess. Can only hope for some REALLY good rains and then hope that the surviving fish can redistribute and breed. All long term stuff! Pollies then have to look at water allocations to try and prevent re-occurrence.
I just love Exmouth: Its a quaint little drinking town with a fishing problem!

Stop farming cotton
Slurps water like there is no tomorrow (and for the fish there isn’t a tomorrow) and the toxic chemicals used to control pests are unbelievable. Then add farmers stealing greater than their allocation and disaster is inevitable. Sorry but if we aren’t growing food we should stop all allocations for this crop !

Hemp uses 50% less water than
Hemp uses 50% less water than cotton yet yields 200% more fibre. Might be time for the govt to start looking at incentives for cotton farmers to switch over?

I remember growing up in NSW
I remember growing up in NSW and travelling to family in outback NSW on hunting trips, these problems have been around for a looong time.
I remember older family members as a kid discussing the issue and that was 30 years ago.
Greed and mismanagement.
