when you say small , how small.

 there is plenty of ground to fish but do youself a favor and check out the charts.the swells can be a bit on the big side at times so def check the forecast before you hit the water.  havnt fished there for a number of years . 

 There are reefs offshore that you will need to go through if you want to fish outside. The channels are wide, you just need to know where they are. As  to where to fish, there is so much ground that it's hard to know where to start. if you want to troll, get out through the reefs and fish the 12 fathom edge for mackerel, should be a good chance this time of year. if you look at your charts, you'll see the Leander Reef about 9 miles to to southwest. Down that way , the edge is a lot  more pronounced. Pretty good fishing in general down there, I believe. The area just north of it is called The Graveyard--incredibly rugged piece of reef.  if you want to go deeper, there seems to be a lot of generally flat ground out in 30-odd to 40 metres that can produce.

If you want to keep it low key, I'm sure there are a million places to anchor up inside and burley up herring and skippy, with the odd bigger surprise thrown in.

North of town is a bit different, shallow inside ground then a wide sandy expanse, with some good ground scattered across it , until you get to the outer bank,  which runs up towards geraldton.  I'd really advise you to get the Navionics app on your phone, worth every penny, just to get an idea of it before you go. You may have that level of charting on your plotter, but I find  easier to sit down with your feet up , beer in hand, and wander around chart, zooming in and out.

I'm basing all the above on about 5 years of fishing the early part of the Whites run there when I had my crayboat, I'm sure others have much more detailed info to share. Interesting place.
