Winter Skippy and bycatch
I have a spot out of Woodies in the shallows that always seems to be holding a big school of whitebait, only in 4m but come pelagic season its a real hot spot for spanish and shark mackerel, yellowtail kings and sambos. Coming back in one day I had a quick flick with some 8g micro jigs on this bombie and landed some nice skippy and undersize snapper. Throughout winter I anchored and burleyed on this bombie a few times and was totally addicted to catching the skippy that were calling it home, and some welcome bycatch also.
Dad with a high 40s fish, which turned out to be the average sized fish out there.
Pleasant bycatch. Simple rig, small jighead, 6lb leader, 6lb mainline. Head and tail of mulie for bait, everything in between chopped up fine for burley.
Not many skippy under 50 that day.
Some more bycatch, PB 56cm KGW.
Released.
One session I got totally chopped up by very large fish, with bigger pinks hanging close to the bombie and sambos sitting just off the motor eating every piece of bait and burley that hit the water. So headed out with some heavier gear and picked up some livies on the way out.
A hectic double hookup while solo, snapper eating a mulie cube on the skippy gear and the sambo on a live herring under a balloon.
Lucky hookup.
Another victim to the livie under the balloon.
Another new PB 62cm.
Dad with another skippy and well-known Balinese style dish "Blackened Fish"
Heading home, freezing cold, uggies on.
still trying

Great size Skippy. We got out a few weeks ago and got onto a few Skippy. No where near that size though. But got a nice 5.75kg Dhu inclose too.
