whiting

Hey im just wondering if anyone can give me some tips on getting some whiting. Everyone always talks about after a bad days fishing whiting can make it ok and all that but im finding it really hard to get any last 3 trips targeted them and didnt get one. Im using fresh squid on 2/0 hooks on flat ground just to the back of the FFB can anyone give me any tips on where to get them ie: what type of ground or depth

Cheers Luke

Ox heart

Try OX heart as bait, works a treat on small hooks, sandies cant help themselves. As for king george, I'll leave that to the metro gurus. :)

Whiting I find are more

Sat, 2007-07-07 19:13

Whiting I find are more prolific close to the shore, I prefer to use occy or squid and we always get a few.

As for KG's this thread should help you out

Whiting rigs

Sat, 2007-07-07 19:40

You can buy whiting rigs  but some come with 6 hooks on them  but you can only used 3 of the hooks and like adam said xo heart is by far the best and put it through the hook twice to help keep it on the hook

Hia Guys

mind if i ask if you are out at 35m you still have to search for structure ? I tried it only once and it was hard to find anything decent mind you then I scouted 3 mile and kicked myself when I saw nice 5meter drops and Coral overhang or I believe it was :) what is it out at 35 m ? just random luck ?

thanks

yo yo yo if your fishing the back of ffb your on the right track
head out to the 32 to 33 meter mark and drop. if they around youll get hits straight away. standard pattenosta rig works well generally straight out from pnt peron hit the 33m mark and bang your on. f you start getting small flat head move move quickly.

That's six words mate. Shag & Sherbs reckon you can't catch fish, I just reckon you can't count.

NOHA & Mav, are you talking KG's  / Sandies or both there?

Cheers

34m mark for me

Wed, 2007-07-18 11:47

Synthos, if you are heading out of Ocean Reef or Mindarie, simply head out to 34m and drop down with small red longshank hooks and small slivers of squid on a standard paternoster rig (nothing more than 10kg trace needed). Simply drift for 100m and if nothing pull up and move 200m then do the same again heading deeper as you go. Eventually you will find a patch of whiting and once you do, mark the spot as they will be there time and time again. That's how I found all my whiting spots dotted along the coast. There are big schools of sandies out there in that sort of depth on flat sandy bottom (no structure) you just have to find them.

Good luck.

Try Mindarie

Wed, 2007-07-18 23:33

Head out to Staggies and then go south about 300m then west till you hit about the 20m mark and you will find good size sandies along there. They aren't as prevelant as out wide but you will get a decent feed in no time anyway.

We picked up a spot in 40m of water with sand whiting 30cm+, this spot isn't so prolific with them but they are good size.
