The white run usually coincides with the first flowering of our orange Christmas trees. Had to head down to Toodyay on the weekend and noticed them starting to bloom around Gin Gin so expect the run to be not far off

The amount of angst the whites cause folks is rediculous and that is made worse by morons who post old photos.

4 Sized Whites
Pulled pots yesterday after soaking them for a week. Out of six pots three had crayfish shells due to octopus, one pot had a busted bait basket and struts (presumably due to a wobbie) and the other two pots had bugger all.
Pulled the pots again this morning (24 hours later) and we got 4 sized whites. Also returned 4 undersize.
This is NOR and I am making an assumption we will be bagging out by the end of the week.

This morn same area. Quick in and out. Only shallow. Whites that I seen and got, hard and easy targets. Never got any jelly beans. Be surprised if potters don’t do well Wednesday or Thursday. Still think going to be quick run . No dought people behind five will do better than most. I just haven’t seen the numbers in shallow this year. Probably stopped at 5 fathom this year. Unsure only a gues

I googled tallow it says animal fat or rendered down fat. I use pig fat but if I have any fat at home I will use it. Wouldn't want too much of it on a nice boat though.

Using fat
Tallow or any animal fat may be a very good scent for crays but what about the grey coats they have an amazing sence of smell and may start to associate the animal fat with boats with divers

Easy don’t
Dive near pots. Anything attracts sharks. ( tuna heads. Blue Mack’s being the best). Animal fat least of worries.

Also attracts divers
A string of cray pots will also attract divers. I watched a dive charter boat with about 10 divers pull up right next to a string of some 6-8 amateur pots on Saturday and all divers went over the side with loops.
I thought it was a bit rough to do such a thing, yes I know that no one owns the ocean but to target a string of pots so blatantly is the height of arrogance in my book.

Bagged Out
I have no intention of posting to this page everyday, so this will probably be my last post for while. With absolutely no disrespect to Sea-Kem, i just wanted to let him know we bagged out today.
Tough work though. We are in 11m NOR but the pro's are working the same reef (which we havent seen in the last 5 years). They have total disregard for rec potters. We watched a pro run directly over our floats today, admittedly it was a jet powered boat so it did no damage, but it wasnt really necessary. Then another pro buzzed our line of pots just to interfere with our progress. He didnt pull any pots and once he passed us he took a 90 degree turn and headed out to the next reef system. Just seems like arrogant behaviour to me!
Good luck to those that are gearing up for the weekend.

Potting North of Mindarie in
Potting North of Mindarie in 11mtrs, few pro's working same area, 10 from 4, 9 whites & 1 red, not bad for first pull of the season after a 6 day soak.
We did have the area to ourselves but seems to have been bombed by all and sundry, that's life I guess, just a pity that their is always one dickhead driving round pulling other's pots. Watched these guys pull their 4 and as we were leaving they had stopped on the next line and started pulling another pot, looked back a few times to see them driving round in circles pulling more.
Same shit every year.

Question for the ex pro crayfishermen
Pot lids undone or missing, I have tied pot lids down with cord, jammed them in as hard as yet still come across the lids having been lifted or half open or missing. I can not figured out just what in the hell how these lids are coming adrift any ideas would be appreciated

Stretch cord
Drill a hole in the bait lid and run stretch cord through it and onto inside of baitbox. That way the lid stays shut and you have to turn lid sideways when putting bait in

Pot lids
99 percent sure stingrays ( suck and snap) small zippy tie does job. Gates missing ,pots haven’t swelled ( normally first few drops there loose) zippy fixes that also. Squid in pot no way. Next blow, big swell they will all run.( gone). All guess work . No science. Already getting reds with whites. Bad sign

My plan to pot this year have taken a turn for the worse. Last week I purchased a 20kg box of Orange Roughy heads and they are no longer required. I have separated the heads so they are no longer in one box. 43 heads in total. $55 - I'm located in North Perth.
