Which soft plastic for bream?

Hey Fishos,
I'm trying to refine my style. Instead of chucking a prawn to the middle of the river and waiting, I've been observing structure, watching the other guys around me and reading up on river fishing for black bream wherever I can. Bought my first decent rod today, a 6 foot Shimano with reel rated 2 - 4kg, put 3kg Platypus mono on and had a flick around the river this arvo. Never used such light gear before but was amazed at how far and how accurate the casts could get.
Was wondering, could anyone recommend a size, name and or model of soft plastic for chasing black bream or a hard body or anything else for that matter.
Much appreciation for any help,
Dunc.

halco RMG 35, 45 or 52 size
halco RMG 35, 45 or 52 size in a brown colour. sx40's work well too but are $20. Caught me heaps of fish though. Both are multi purpose lures that have caught me flathead, bream and tailor
Berkly gulps are pretty good. have picked up some tarwhine on the 15cm (6inch) bloodworm colour

Dunc I was heavily involved

I was heavily involved with the bream scene for a few years and caught most of my fish on plastics. They offer a much more finnese presentation and are probably cheaper to start out on. But dont discount a few hard body lures like SX40's, atomic hardz and halco/rmg's. These 3 are good starter hards and not going to break the bank like the $25-40 japanese lures.
Plastics wise, gulps are a good start as they catch fish well. But blowies are a problem with them (and any plastic). I found I got alot of fish on the amber snapback 2" grub on a 1/16th jighead- bigger fish too. Blowies arent as bad on these plastics. Squidgy wrigglers are good too in 80mm in the bloodworm and wasabi colours. And for a local option, the madeye lures are a good plastic worm pattern. Theres a couple of shape options and the watermelon colours always attract fish.
Another good lure to try is the baby vibe, all the benefits of the hardbody, but you can fish the vertical areas better with them. Green is a good colour. You can even try the VX 40 metal blades by ecogear and the TT switchblades and ghostblades in the green/gold/purple colours. They fish better on deeper water like at the narrows and down around claremont and such.
Good luck with it mate, and remember to keep things nice and slow with the lures, relax and be patient.
Fish for thrills....

softplastics -
if your fishing upstream of the causeway use bait breath in the mosya or rushcraw
otherwise down stream your best friend is the snapback grub as mentioned before amber my favourit colour.
Head in to All Boats Business and check em out they have a great range of bream lures
Cheers Duffman
I believe there are a few cranka shads available for $10 about 5 left, call up and see
