Have a go a little further
Have a go a little further out at the 3 mile reef line, head north west from little island. You'll usually see plenty of other boats out there just south of where it breaks between Hillarys and O/Reef. Occasional sambo's, pinkies and sharks can be found around there.

Apparently there been some fighting at the Beckenham train station (is that on the Armadale line) if you cant get out to the spots you talking about.

Bluedog is on the money mate,
Bluedog is on the money mate, sound out a drop off or lump on the 3mile anywhere out from hillaries or ocean reef and get the berly trail going! I tend to get a few more sambos doing this in the summer months so your in for a chance of a good fight! Also ive found the days with less swell fish beter in the shallow water in close to the reef, alot safer then too. Goodluck

Personaly when i fish the
Personaly when i fish the 3mile i first find a likely spot and anchor up. Then get the burley going,i just dice up a block of mulies, half goes in a burley cage with a pre mix burley aswell and the other half is slowly flicked out the back of the boat a few pieces every few minutes. Then ill flick out a whole mulie on 2 x snelled 6/0 hooks (or just gang hooks) with no sinker on and just let it drift around in the burley trail until something finds it (can take half hour or so sometimes, gotta wait for the burley to start working), In the mean time just drop some small baits down to try catch some fresh bait or flick some plastics around. If i catch any small bread and butter fish (herring, whitting, snook etc) then ill put them out as bait instead of the mulies.
This method works for me most times im out there so hopefully it can get you into a few as well. Have you got a sounder and/or gps?

No sounder
I fished for a couple years without a sounder or GPS and caught plenty of fish, including some PB's of Dhu, KG's, and others.
Some good advise above, pick your ground , berly up and float out some big baits. You will end up with some good spots to fish that you can find without all the instruments.
Cheers Grant..

No worries mate. If you cant
No worries mate. If you cant get a gps then get a map of the area you intend to fish and study it hard! There is alot of shallow reef out there from scarborough north and would be very easy to get into trouble. Get out there and give it a go and feel free to ask any questions. If you havnt caught anything decent after a few tries then let me know and ill see if i can point you in the right direction ;)

mindarie
try going up the back of the three mile out from from mindarie, no sounder , but just watch the bottom in the water colour and try hang around some rough botom theres always going to be some good fish turning up after a good berley, early morning or late afternoon is best , follow the tides as well , rising or failing tides do best, jusy remeber to keep to the limits of your rig , and there willl be always days when the fish dont play the game

good tipcarry some party
good tip
carry some party balloons
when you get a smallish skippy , stick it out under the balloon and wait and see.
fish top, middle and bottom at once
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.
