What's your favorite bit of gear?

When I was about 13 I saved up for my first overhead. It was a Shimano 3GT star drag. Cost me $92 at Kmart in 1990, and then christened it with a bonito off snapper point on the south coast of NSW. Exciting for me as a 13 year old at the time. Always had a thing for this reel. It's caught many fish and I've still got it, and it now has a bigger brother, the 4GT that I bought off ebay last week.
It's a budget reel, but unbreakable and full of good memories for me just from looking at it.
Anyone else holding onto a bit of gear they can't part with?

Alvey 651C5 - I’ve had it for
Alvey 651C5 - I’ve had it for 35 years. Its caught plenty and even disappeared into the surf once off the stones down south when a king wave paid a visit. It washed back up 2 waves later and after a bit of patching up it was good to go again. I’ve had heaps of reels over the years but it’s still packed away ready for its 30th trip to Steep Point… TOMORROW!

many years ago we used to
many years ago we used to fish north with handlines and bike tube on the pointers and pinky fingers for "drag" and we used to get that drag smoking.
When I was old/rich lol enough I saved and bought a USA built penn 9500ss
I've fished this reel up north countless times and has caught everything from red's, mackies galore and literally at least a ton of YFT.
the reel doesn't get used much anymore but is still in great working order and would still handle the big tuna easily.
Believe it or not it's actually worth more second hand now than I paid for it new but ....just cant seem to part with it.

When i was 16 I bought my first ever beach/spinning rod -
a 12 foot shakespeare "ugly stik" gutts butt brand new for my first land based quobba fishing trip. It totally destroyed shark mackeral, spanish mackeral, big golden trevs and big barracuda on top then heaps of pinkies, coral trout, spanglies on the bottom. Its caught a thousand big fish since and has outlived several reels over the last 30 years, its still my "go to" rod for the beach/rocks and and ive just bought a brand new FIN NOR 80 lethal for it cause i know i'll be using it till the day i cark it - if i could i'd take it with me to the big "fishing grounds" in the sky when i go there! ha ha
