Meteye
Meteye shows 6km square blocks so you can see where the wind is predicted for where you want to fish. For this arvo looks like it is sw turning southerly later.

+1 for BOM Meteye
also shows waves forecast 3-4 days ahead in the area you want to fish and probably more importantly where you wanna launch from. Ive always found it pretty much spot on especially for offshore wind predictions

Hi Paul,Just thought I'd
Hi Paul,
Just thought I'd clarify some facts about the BOM Marine Wind Page ( www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml) that you are using for your forecasts.
This is not BoM's best marine wind or wave data, this page only exists to service areas beyond 60nm from shore since BoM have a responsibility to provide forecasts for the greater Australiasian region. You should not be using it for forecasts on land or within 60nm from shore.
The way BoM derive their forecasts is as follows (These steps are the refinement steps for arriving at their best data)
Step 1- ACCESS-G (global forecast model) - The first guess (25km grid)
Step 2 - ACCESS-R (Regional forecast model) - The computer homes in on Australiasia and makes a better guess (10km grid)
Step 3- ADFD (Australia only forecast) - The computer then homes in on just the Australian continent and 60nm out from the coast and makes a better guess (3km grid in VIC/TAS and 6km in other states)
Step 4- ADFD Manual Review - Meterologists in each state review the ADFD forecast grids then make manual adjustments based on their experience. They then release them for use by MetEye and other companies like Fish Ranger.
So really you should not be using the BoM Marine Wind Page if you are within 60nm from the coast. You should be using a tool that uses the ADFD data set such as MetEye or Fish Ranger. (Of course as the founder of Fish Ranger I want you to use that but given I am providing impartial advice I am giving you an alternative. Fish Ranger does show you every hour of data as opposed to MetEye's 3 hour and shows live wind etc).
To go into more detail, the BoM Marine Wind Page only shows the ACCESS-R model for the first 2 days then shows data from a European model for days 3 to 7 (55km Grid) which is even worse.
If you go to 'About Forecast Wind' page on the Marine Wind Page ( www.bom.gov.au/marine/about/about-forecast-wind.shtml ) it confirms the Marine Wind Page is not BoM's official forecast data:
The Bureau's official wind forecasts for land and near-shore areas (nominally to an extent of 60 nautical miles) can found on MetEye. The MetEye forecast maps have been adjusted by meteorologists to better represent expected weather. These maps are derived from ADFD grids and represent the official Bureau forecasts which are routinely verified.

I went out today
And MetEye was pretty much spot on for the whole day. It's not always that way. Fishranger was on it too, I just find MetEye easy to work with.

Fishranger and Meteye
They both use the same BOM data. Fishranger shows hourly data, Meteye three hourly. I like the MetEye display for seeing what's going on in the area. Fishranger gives a good overview of all data for the one location.

I use windfinder, it is good
I use windfinder, it is good because you can narrow down your area of interest, if you look at rotto, garden island and then woodies you can get a pretty clear idea of what is going on.

Not Great
Fish Ranger has forecasts at the reef cluster and it doesn't look great tomorrow. 2m swell and a bit of chop.

Big difference.
There is a big difference between Seabreeze & Meteye for this weekends weather.
Taking the young grandson out in the tinnie so I gotta get it right.
It's amazing how different they can be given that it is Friday & both vary in their predictions for the next 24/48 hours.
Cheers & Stay safe

not really
Deckie,
It's not that amazing. Seabreeze do NOT use BOM data for their wind forecasts, they only use BoM data for their observations. Seabreeze use free, uncontrolled data from America (NOAA GFS to be precise) for their Wind and Wave forecasts which comes out of a computer 4 times a day. So for BoM who use a different model (ADFD) which meterologists manually control after the computer issues it, differences are expected. Sometimes they will be minor, other times large.
