what soft plastics and colours anyone would recommend

Gday all

Going to Exmouth during the next school holidays with young bloke and family and was wondering what soft plastics and colours  anyone would recommend for both deep and shallow water. Bait will be used also but want to give SPs a go.

I am not asking for marks as my son was up there in may and has some for outside Tandabibby. As a family we lived in Exmouth for 5 yrs and have been away for about 25 yrs. In those yrs we used mulies and occy for bait on lumps etc found by eyesight, charts, memory and compass bearings - No GPS or fancy colour sounders - just an FE400 Furuno paper sounder but still managed to outfish most of the locals and tourists who would ask for my spots.

BTW we also used Lizard fish, rigged up properly, to catch spanish mackeral and the odd sailfish. Goes to show that even Lizards are usefull

So much for the drivel. Brings back memories.

Was up there a couple of weeks ago, soft plastics out fished bait on most days we went out.

White seemed to be the most successful colour for us.

Definitely NOT McCarthy bright orange

Sun, 2014-08-17 12:17

Fished for a week out of a sailing cat on Shark Bay around Dirk Hartog this week, pinks, whites, oily blue in that order BUT the bright orange McCarthy was completely and utterly ignored without a single touch over four days .......yet every other was hit virtually every cast ".."................now if that doesn't tell you something nothing does

Thanks for the comments

Gives me something to try and will not use bright orange as that colour may indicate poison.

Hopefully I will be able to report after the trip with pics and video as my son has a GoPro.

Just remembered a tip for Bluebone - leave the prawns or crabs in the sun until the start changing cilour and ooze. This is a very good bait for bluebone.

Hey mate, We have a huge

Sun, 2014-08-17 17:01

Hey mate,

We have a huge range of plastics that work a treat up there. Shop favorites would have to be any of the soft plastics in the McArthy range. The 4" Paddle Tails and 5" Finesse Minnows work fantastic in the shallow's and for topwater casting. For the deeper demersal species the 5" and 6" Paddle Tails and the 7" Bullhead Minnows have been the downfall of many many quality fish. Colours wise we have a huge range, I would reccomend taking up a few different colours so you can mix it up on the day and see what they are going for. Take a few brights like pink/pearl and hot orange and then some naturals like cherry ice and crystella.

5" Zman streaks are a great option if you would like a longer lasting plastic. Because they are made out of a very stretchy elastic style rubber they last quite a bit longer. Matched up with the TT headlock jig heads they are an awesome option when there are plastic pickers around.

Come in and take a look, I'm sure you'll find something that tickles your fancy!

Cheers

You can keep the hot orange

Sun, 2014-08-17 20:05

Totally agree with the rest of the recommendations as they were what you sold me and all performed brilliantly but the Orange was untouched over the week, not even the N W blowies would get near them despite destroying everything else at times including hard bodies and stick baits and I can only conclude that the orange resembles a colour strongly linked to poison like the colourful nudiibranches

Nuclear Chicken

Tue, 2014-08-19 07:01

Yep, agree, Gulp nuclear chicken has been the most consistant performer for me.

Down side with the gulps is they tend to have a short life as they are probably the softest of all the plastics.

Gulp nuclear chicken in 7" jerk shad or 6" grub & McCarthys Chartruce/Pearl 6" paddle tail, are my go to plastics.
