upset at penn

i am a little pissed to say the least.

about 2 months ago i bought a penn 15kg boat rod, yes not the ducks nuts but its all i required as it was like a 5th reserve rod. and as luck would have it i needed to use it on our recent trip to coral bay. second drop i felt the rod slowly load up which was the bottom...i applied a little bit of pressure and BANG! the rod snapped in 3 places. when i spoke to bcf where i bought it from they informed me that penn would not swap the rod therefore i am stuck with a rod broken in 3 places...

what a joke.....i dont like complainin about companies in public but seriously..that is b grade for such a large company...

any thoughts on what i can do???

I'd be going straight to the top and getting in touch with the Penn distributors in Aust.

Agreed, after my issue with a reel I went straight to the top (international) and they shipped and replaced at no charge. With Penn's longstanding brandname and quality in the industry it makes you wonder whether it's them (Penn AU) or the actual supplier you bought the rod from that is not willing to exchange??

sorry to say it mate,

Tue, 2011-08-23 09:06

but its your own fault for being such a push over.

take it back to BCF, tell them you have to speak to the manager (even if he is only 14), DEMAND that they replace the rod, and let them know that its not only against the law to not replace faulty goods, but you are not leaving the store until it gets replaced.

you've seriously got to tell them whats happening, and take it into your own hands. it IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PLACE YOU PURCHASED THE GOODS (not the penn reps) TO REPLACE ANY FAULTY PRODUCTS. they then take it to their reps, and get a replacement.

simply put, do not take no for an answer, especially from those useless farks.

Spot on Scotto

then after that don't by another cheap penn boat rod again. Go for a bit more quality, look after it and it should serve you well for years.

I worked in retail for years. Its not the responsibility to REPLACE the goods but at least get them looked at. Then its up to the manufactorer to replace/repair. The sales people should know if its replace, then its done in store no fuss.

should be covered by warranty

Tue, 2011-08-23 10:48

your rod should be covered i think bcf are giving you the run around they should of taken it off you and got the rep in to have a look which is they way its done and the rep will say yes or no upon inspection of the rod (not everyone is innocent when it comes to warranty issues user error is very common) so no scotto they dont have to replace it on the spot its up to store discretion but bcf should not of just palmed you off without even trying

In the eyes of the law there

Tue, 2011-08-23 12:25

In the eyes of the law there should be reasonable expectation that a product brought should perform what it's required to do. Even if the warranty had run out. A rod should not break in three places just like that. Demand satisfation fro BCF or threaten them with legal action. Make em shit.

If they answered your request

Tue, 2011-08-23 13:46

If they answered your request then and their then how did the Penn Rep get to even look at it. Seems to me they would not have even been told just to send you on your way, hopefully making you buy another rod..

This is the difference

Tue, 2011-08-23 14:30

This is the difference between small local buisness compared to chains.

I once bought a diawa redback probaly around 1 yr ago, before i had even connected a reel to it, in transport from the car to the boat (boat was at a stackyard),it snapped. Took it into bluewater, told them the story i dont know what happened a friend was carrying it and apparently it just cleaned snapped, there answer was "well send it off to diawa, and see what they say, apparently depending on the snap and fibers under a microscope that can tell if it was human error, or if there was a fracture in the rod). and around two weeks later i was picking up a freebie rod, brand spanking new

Thats the defference, BCF and the larger stores no customer service at all , all they want is $. I do agree mate, the fact they didnt take your rod and send it off, just proves that they just wanted you to by another one, dont let BCF or ranger push ya ronud mate, you should be calling the shots!

Broken Rods

Tue, 2011-08-23 15:29

I purchased a Rovex 11' beach rod from Tackle World in Geraldton, the first time I used the rod, on the very first cast the rod snapped. I took the rod back to Tackle World about three weeks later and told them the story and they replaced the rod without any hassles, in fact they were more than friendly and provided very professional service. I could not fault they way I was treated and will certainly buy all my future fishing needs from them, Tackle World in Geraldton.

Threatening a multi million

Tue, 2011-08-23 15:41

Threatening a multi million dollar company with a law suit over a $70 dollar rod im sure would have them in a panic, jokes aside that sounds like crap customer service and im sure contacting them again or even going direct to penn you will find some one with some people skills to help, worst case scenario dont buy from bcf or penn products again and slag em off at every oppurtunity, people seem to love jumping on the hate train!

Just my two cents here Don't

Tue, 2011-08-23 18:09

Just my two cents here
Don't go in all angry and take it out at the next guy who speaks to you, an angry customer will never get as far as someone who is calm and collected, who presents their case without insult. I know because I get all the fat middle aged moles who like to yell at the register girls, every faulty product and complaint. I'm sure the manager would hear your case and be impartial to any previous conflict or misunderstanding.

They exchanged with no fuss at all , just give em a call and let them know you'll be in town and coming to see them . If you have the reciept may help as well .

Sometimes you need a few go

Sometimes you need a few go to rods for first time fishing mates. Loan combo`s at a Grand a pop don`t get handed out unless the user has experience to appreciate the gear.

Hi Guys first time posting

Tue, 2011-08-23 21:25

Hi Guys first time posting something, but been reading for ages, all valid points....but:

I often wonder why the people who think that if they walk into a shop and start demanding and abusing the staff,  think that they will get what they want. I have been in the industry for over 12 years, and it is exactly this type of person the staff are told to make sure absolutely nothing is done for them...why because no-one gets paid to get abused...would you like someone coming to your place of work and start abusing you cause you were the first one to make contact wit them? and quiet frankly if you walked into my shop with that kind of attitude I would politely tell you to shove your broken product up your aR$e!!!!

I have found that regardless of what has happened to a product, if you are genuinely polite about it 99% of the time both the supplier and customer walk away both satissfied that they came to a mutual resolution.

And Scotto...to walk into a shop and DEMAND something is not the way to do it.

And threatening stores that you will take legal action over a $70.00 rod, at the end of the day they will laugh in your face.

Now I understand that it is not about the $ spent, but to be honest did your cousin fully explain the situation? and it does sound a little poor to me, that they didn't try to come to a settlement, but nowadays with most retail shop...no proof of purchase, then there is not much any of them will do for you, cause really who is to say you didn't get it from a neighbors bin and want a new one.

These are all what if's I guess but it is something to think about, everyone complains about poor service, but maybe if we all went into a shop with a bit more patience rather than the I want it now mentallity (like most of the 14-20 year olds now) you may find that the service offered may be a bit better than expected.

Sorry for the long rant guy's but the way I see it, if you're polite to the sales staff they will be more than helpfull in return.

spot on tombstone

but there is always some fool WHO SEEMS TO KNOW BETTER AND DEMAND EVERYTHING IS DONE BECAUSE ITS NOT THE REPS JOB as you said he will get his rod shoved up his aR$E but they do give people in retail something to laugh about
