Trailcraft made in China?

Got a mate who's thinking of buying a Trailcraft 525 Runabout. (He's just sent me an email)
I used to have a Trailcraft back in the day and was great entry level boat IMHO, particularly for the river / estuary - but not so flash on my kidneys coming back in with the doctor blowing
I've since owned fiberglass and wouldn't go back to ali & that will be the main point I will be making to him.
I went to the website & from what I can gather they are now made in China.
Anyone had any experience with these new Chinese manufactured Trailcrafts.
Appreciate your thoughts....

Still see a few of them
Still see a few of them about, and after looking at a couple at the dealership in Fremantle, they look pretty good. The fine points (like finishing of welds in the spots you wouldn't normally look) seem OK.

Trailcraft
I brought a new Trailcraft trailblazer 6.8 back in March 2013 with a 200HP optimax. I had a Southwind SF17 ( fibreglass ) previous to the Trailcraft.
The Trailcraft was big & roomy and well set out, but from the first time I went out in Cockburn sound I wished I had brought another glass boat, as the Trailcraft bounced and smacked a lot. I was not sure about country of origin, but there were a few small holes in some welds above water.
Had to sell it last year, and now have another glass boat ( 22ft Commodore with a new 200HP ETECH, and FCUKING love it

Im not sure about the chinese
Im not sure about the chinese builds specifically but the 5800 I had served us like a Trojan.
Numerous Abrolhos trips in all weathers.
Definitely a hard ride but also super roomy, super stable and super strong with huge fuel capacity considering it was only F115

pretty sure after 2010 they
pretty sure after 2010 they went to China, could be wrong. When I was looking at trailcraft I went down to the freo shop and had a chat to Brett who was the owner and he assured me (as a salesman would) that the boats made in China were identical to the Aussie made ones in terms of grades of alli and quality etc. I ended up getting an aussie one anyway but ive seen a fair few newer boats on the water and im yet to hear anything bad.

Yep 2010 onwards chinese
Yep 2010 onwards chinese built. Questions l would be asking is who fixes them when/if required.
Ive got an oz built 2004 and its been a solid boat. Had the fuel tank out afew times as the transom needed some repair. Had a flexing issue and result was some cracking . There were no sleaves used in transom where motor bolts on , so when bolts were done up it squashed the box section where motor mounts. Also found 2 cracks through the gussets from stringers to transom from the flexing problem.
These are common problems that mite not happen straight away but will eventually if the same practices are used.

Yup imported cheaper to
Yup imported cheaper to build. As to product that's up to the individual, as someone mentioned the earlier trails were not to bad. When graham had it then turned to bayshore along came martin to swamp it ( thanks dad ) and yup it worked, but in a way to well. MASS PRODUCTION THINK AGAIN . A select few became a trusting point of tensional release for bretty. Find it funny in a way even funnier yes I did time there. If I had a choice I would stay local, as to repairs that would be nashy x trailly lover lol.

funny thing is i was
funny thing is i was approached at the mandurah show buy a prospective investor trying to push me into going offshore, the offer was quite tempting and their carrot was quite large. as hard as it was thou the offer was refused KEEP IT LOCAL and one on one i say! When your investing the sort of money on a boat or mod theres nothing better than getting involved throu out the entire proccess atleast then you know exactly the quality and structual design that has gone into. keep it real there is no compramise on quality

A number of composite boat
A number of composite boat builders (yacht) are built in China. When they put the right people in the right places, the product can be very good.
Supervision is key.

In 2010 my business partner
In 2010 my business partner and I made a trip to China to look at two boat builders, we were looking to build 18-25 foot glass centre consoles, for the most part the boats were really solid and appeared well made but I would say that this is mainly just due to a thicker layup of glass, a lot of effort was gone to on the stainless and the welds and finish were first class- except they use 304 and it was thin....as it is cheaper. The actual designs that they had were for the most part good, most resembled US centre consoles with the occasion chinese effort which meant half the boat was taken up by the outboard well.
The one thing that made us resoundingly walk away was each factory we visited we were given masks, glasses, boots, earmuffs and overalls (typical safety gear) but non of the workers had any such provisions , there were guys laying up glass with thongs, no gloves or masks - the smell in the factory was overwhelming even with the mask - in short I would not feel good at all about selling a boat to anyone knowing it was built under those conditions.........
This is not a stab at Trailcraft, I am sure there are plenty of manufacturers that operate in a better manner, but I guess just a heads up for anyone buying anything from an unknown source is to understand exactly why it is cheaper and then decide if you can live with that - we couldn't...
