imo stick with the standard
imo stick with the standard stern mount set up, i take it your only using a standard 600wt tranny, so you would lose a bit with that

Depending on the signal strength
Depending on the signal strength you may consider putting in a wet box. Transducer is mounted in an oil filled box that is epoxyed into the hull. then if it needs to be removed it can be done, otherwise it is there forever.

i have been told that it doesnt reduce the effectivness
but they can be a pain to set up needing a wet box and getting the angle and all right

send me a pm mate with your
send me a pm mate with your e-mail address and I will send you loads of info on how to set up.
one of the best and easiest way to locate the best spo first, is to fill a plastic bag with water and place the transducer in it. Then move the bag around the bottom of the hull, just placing it on the bottom till you get the best image.
cheers
