have been looking at the overhead models of the shimano deep jig rods and im unsure of which one is better for my needs
the rod will be used for mostly bottom bashing in 40-200 meters using leads weighing 15 to 30oz and will be paired with either a tyrnos 12 or saltist 35ld loaded with 50lb braid

that is a fair bit of lead
as a rough guide the 200 is for jigs about 200grams and the 400 ... well 400g.
the 200 is better if you want to get a big bend and for smaller fish.
400 if you want to put in the big hurt, but is a fair bit stiffer.

I've used both extensively.
I've used both extensively. The 400 is pretty stiff is is really a stump puller with 80 lb braid. The 200 is a very sweet rod, one of the best I've had the pleasure of using and suits 50 lb braid nicely. I would go for that for sure.

200 for sure
as stated above the 200 (i have the spin model) is a sweet rod for general bottom fishing and trolling while the 400 is like a broomstick with guides. cheers

200 no doubt.Great rod.
200 no doubt.
Great rod.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
