Talking Cricket

Has Steve Smith ever done anything other than lick Micheal Clarke's ass (and probably his missus)?  This guy is an average bowler to say the least. I wouldn't classify him as a spinner. More a waste of space LOL. I get really agitated when he bats as he really can't do that either and someone needs to show him how to get his gear on right. He annoys the F out of me with his constant pad adjusting and his little walks.

Am I being to hard on the pretty boy?

'Esmay' Watson, hasn't he turned into a jet.

As far as Steve Smith is concerned it just shows our lack of depth in the spinner/allrounder department. Give him time.

Smith isn't a proper spinner,

Wed, 2011-08-17 16:07

Smith isn't a proper spinner, really, hes a lower end batsmen who can bowl. But as you say, give him time and hell get there. He has the potential, theres no doubt about that.

Fact of the matter is, if we had a decent leggie, smith wouldnt be in the team.

Clarke

You are right with Steve Smith being a rabbit, but IMO Clarke is a fair weather cricketer and is only hanging onto a test spot by a thread(albeit the captain)- so who's arse is he kissing?

Wed, 2011-08-17 09:01

the selectors are / were the problem with australian cricket in the past

but i do think they have shown a fare bit more 'thinking outside the square' for the current tour of sri lanka.

we have a lot of frindge / unexperienced players who we need to get games into.

i think its a really good idea what they have done, by making very different teams for T20 ODI and tests, it gives a lot more players a chance to show something and gain experience.

one thing that really impressed me last night was the form of doug the rug, obviosuly not picked in the test team because of his form last year, but it was very good to see him back taking wickets.

and ricky looks to be a lot more realxed now he isn't captain, another good idea by the powers at be, the team looks a little more united this series.

/end rant.

That may well change if things go bad

Wed, 2011-08-17 09:59

As suggested earlier Michael Clarke is somewhat of a fair weather player/captain. How he and Ricky get on if we start struggling is yet to be seen. The same can be said for the rest of the team. Getting back to Steve Smith Clarke seems reluctant to bowl him so why is he picked? Last night's effort was pretty ordinary and in any other circumstances he would have been taken off. Go Dougie!

My opinion of the current selectors is not as you see it Claymore. Maybe I'm just an old sinic who can't stand the likes of Chappel and Hilditch. I think Boonie is there to serve the drinks LOL.

yeah very true mate, its all

Wed, 2011-08-17 12:18

yeah very true mate, its all good when they are not under any pressure.

don't get me wrong on the selectors, i'm not a fan, they have made some terrible decisions since the legends all retired.

i do think they have made a few ok changes of late but like giving alot of players games, taking cpt of ricky, dropping cameron white, and playing david hussey more.

i'd live happily ever after if i never heard from another chappel again in my life.

the question for smith is what is his role in the team, not sure it is very much with clarkey atm.

he bowled 2 overs and got 18 runs with the bat, surely won't be there to much longer.

Half the reason steve smith

Wed, 2011-08-17 16:00

Half the reason steve smith is in the team is becasue the nine commentary time have shoved his name down the selectors throats and on the broadcast of the cricket. Same goes for hughes and kawaja. mind you kawaja deserved a game.

Hope marshy gets a go in the test series, even in the next few one dayers.

David hussey, really, why do they even bowl him! he bowls absolute PIES and his batting is 'interesting' to.

Wed, 2011-08-17 16:21

Steve Smith's selection into any Australia side is an absolute joke.
There are way more options ahead of him, why they keep playing him as a #7 bat is beyond me...

I'm not even prepared to waste my time explaining why he shouldnt be in the side, its bloody obvious.

Smith is an absolute bunny! his "leggys" dont even spin and he cant bat for crap, I am being harsh but i bloody hate him!

Clarkeys hanging on by a thread, IMO should of been hussey or haddin for skip :)

Wouldn't consider either

Wed, 2011-08-17 20:57

Husseys probably only got this summer left in the test side and Haddins days are numered. Tim Payne will get the keeping job soon enough.

Unfortunatly Clarke has been the future skipper for about 6yrs now so they were never going to give it to anyone else. His numbers are better than alot of critics realize I just hope he's a creative/proactive captain, not reactive.

It's a shame there arn't alot of batsmen around the country churning out big runs to force their way into the squad. The guys there now (except Katich) are probably the best we've got. Shaun Marsh, Phil Hughes and Usman Khawaja will be the future of our test side.

Honestly don't care about T20's or ODI's.

Fri, 2011-08-19 18:27

Khawaja is a great batsmen, way ahead of Steve Smith or Phil Hughes, I really don't know what these guys are good for.

I don't really have a problem with Clarke, he hasn't done too much wrong to deserve all this stick.

It's not the first time the selectors have been stuffing around, What about the likes of Brad Hodge or Lee Carseldine, barely played a game for Australia but very talented cricketers.

Onto the bowling side of things, look a few years down the track and we'll have James Patterson and Pat Cummins in the side, what an exiting prospect these two are.

Bollinger looked good, good areas and was well rewarded with wickets, should he be in the test side? I think yes

Although Watson is an amazing player, i really don't think he is a vice captain, and Cameron White as captain of the T20 side.... Hmmmmmm.

Isn't opinion a great thing?

Sat, 2011-08-20 18:39

Early in the tread we talked about the selectors and I admit being a huge critic. Well well, justice has finally been done!!!! Let's see what CA come up with next.

Maybe Barnett should see the light and get rid of Rob Johnston.
