looking at getting 2 new trolling outfits was looking at the talicas but then i thought for the same price as one i can get two tyrnos which is only a bit heavier but looks like its almost the same inside also would you buy the tyrnos 16 or 20 will only be used for trolling for macks in perth and also up to exmouth twice a year cheers

I'd go the Talica, smoother
I'd go the Talica, smoother than a Tyrnos plus is quiet with ratchet off, Tyrnos are as anoying as F**K as they always have a clicker engaged.

If it's going to spend most of its life in the rod holder
Tyrnos 20 if it was me. The anti reverse on a tyrnos is noisy, and they are a bit heavier than most reels, but they are pretty darn bullet proof also!
if you really want to save yourself some money and are purely going to use them for trolling, nothing wrong with the old tld25 reels! Cheap as chips and probably caught more fish than just about any reel in their existence in the market place. If you hunt around and get them when someone is having a sale, you should pick up a reel for under $150 each with mono spooled and ready to go.
we hooked a good size marlin in Exmouth earlier this year on one I got and it was the rod reel seat which gave out instead of the reel. The reel handled a 100 ish kg striped marlin without too much hassle at all.

I agree with scano, I use the Tyrnos 30 & a TLD 25 for trolling up north.
It is the only place I use them, both loaded with minimum stretch mono are great & IMO tough as nails. Been using the TLD 25 for about 25 years & had no probs with it.
Good luck with your choice, but concider these ones.
Cheers & Stay safe

agree with you scano it will be in the holder getting splashed with saltwater etc all the time just want somthing thats strong and can hadnle big fish and if looked after will last a while and considering the best price i can get for a talica is 525 and for a tyrnos is 199 i think tyrnos is the way to go

Tyrnos
or the good old Tld.
I have had all including a couple of Talica's and currently have 2 Tld 30's as my trolling outfits.
I have a Tyrnos 50 2sp as a deep dropper and Talica 10 and 12 bottom bashers.

Mix it up
Talica for bottom bouncing , Tyrnos for trolling. I've got a Talica 12 2 speed, works well for both applications . Really nice size for bottom bouncing not Tld chunky. However I prefer to use trusty Tld 5,10,15,20,25 and 30 for trolling. Got a bit of a soft spot for the Tlds...:)

Talica II
Ive got a couple in the rack for bottom bashing and had a great run out of them, one got a bit notchy on the retrieve, sent back to Shimano via dealer, $26 bearing replacement and good as new.
