I was just down there...

I think more important than popper lures and mulies is the timing and conditions when catching tailor...

reefy patches where baitfish roam, early morning or late arvo/sunset this time of the year with a southwesterly bringing in choppy conditions, or northwesterly... choppy conditions in general....

ive known people to catch them with a weighted mulie, or baitcasting them on ganghooks.. or using poppers, even larger sized twisties... even long skinny SP's,

Thats for tailor... Mullaway, well, I *hear* they dont take SP's or lures and are caught more on bait but you know how it is... heresay is heresay... reality is when you land them yourself ;)

dunno if its true or not but i was told some jumbo mulloway swim into the marina at night and gorge themselves on bait fish right up by the kids beach, apparently fish upto 30kg have been pulled out before all the moorings went in

Tailor Mindarie

Dont know about Mindarie but with easterlys blowing all night like weve had lately try sending out a balloon from shore at places like trigg blue hole or club capricorn.
I use 2 gamakatsus and a sharp treble snelled on a wire trace.
Chuck on a fresh scaly mackeral or mullet and the balloon will take your bait right to the strike zone at the edge of the reef.
As long as your hooks are razor sharp the balloon sets the hooks on the strike.
There is some very big tailor out there this time of year that are just out of shorecasting reach and too dangerous for the boaties to get at.
This has landed me tailer to around 4 kilos in Perth,
just prepare for cold nights.

mulloway

the best way for the mulloway is mulies or next best is whatever bait fish are in the area. As for lures and sp mulloway will sometimes take big softplastics ones with a nice long tail and havn't heard of any lures for mulloway

tailor and softies, while effective, are a expensive combination .
