Super Moon last night
Submitted by snapper on Sun, 2012-05-06 16:17
Fishing last night was pretty average, as soon as it got dark it seemed like the fish just switched off.
I have just discovered that last night was the brightest night of the year (Super Moon ) dont know if it has anything to do with the poor
fishing but when I was in Jurien at Easter we had a full moon also and the fishing was also below par. Any Astronomers/fishermen out there who can shed some light on this.

was going to head out for a fish, but knowing that is was full moon and super moon decided not to go seemed to be a good choice. being doing a bit of research as of lately and seems the fish dont like the light makes them to exposed to predators which in theory makes sense!
just have to think like the fish :)

not all fish
pelagics such as tuna/swords LOVE the full moon and catches over the dark are minuscule in comparison.

We found that at Exmouth the couple days after the full moon was a completely different story to the couple days before.
On the same marks before the full moon couldn't get a sniff. Same marks on the few days after - plenty of action.
Some guys I know went on a charter up there the day before the full moon on the same day we were fishing my boat and had a similar experience (one keeper fish for the entire charter boat). Skipper blamed the moon - but who knows.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
