Sunscreens, “cause the rapid and complete bleaching of hard corals

Interesting perspective on how 'some' sunscreens bleach coral..
Appearing in the peer-reviewed Environmental Health Perspectives, the study found that the UV filters listed above, that is, oxybenzone (benzophenone-3) and octyl methoxycinnamate (octinoxate) as well as propylene glycol, “cause the rapid and complete bleaching of hard corals, even at extremely low concentrations. The effect of sunscreens is due to organic* ultraviolet filters, which are able to induce the lytic viral cycle in symbiotic zooxanthellae with latent infections.” (Environmental Health Perspectives)

Sunscreens cause coral bleaching..
So be careful when entering the water to which sunscreens you wear. Some sunscreens do more damage than any in even small doses..

When I first read this I
When I first read this I aproached with my usual scepticism. Nobody does research like this unless they have an agendga. Someone paid those people to prove that information for there own political or finanical gain. I at first though it would be some political extreme green group trying to get swimmers banned from sensitive reef areas because there sunscreen is causing coral bleaching...
But no..
Its been paid for by the makers of an organic sunscreen.....
So forget about global warming, acid sulphate soil leaching or nitrates...change your brand of sunscreen and it will all be fine

It sound like you are like me an amateur member of Sceptic's Anon. You would need a shit load of sunscreen to get even minor concentrations of UV filters in the Ocean.
Hardly use it myself, cover everything with clothing and hats rather than grease all over. Long sleeve, gloves, broad brim hat protect me better than a layer of slimy sunscrean.
But above all, dont let this stop people from covering against sun damage, Australia leads the way in cycling now, and we have always led the world in Melanoma rates.

Engineering Projects
Such as exploration and mining surely pose more threats to the ocean environment. The answer to that apparently is to tax the companies and the problems will all go away. Maybe a suncream tax??
The above info is like saying if you spill battery acid on your foot it will cause an injury. Of course it will!
