mate you can't turn your
mate you can't turn your back for a second and its so sad that people steal what is not theirs. when i lived in south africa if someone wanted something you have you could have a gun held to your head and if you refused the trigger would be pulled. the number one reason we moved over here. hope it never gets to that. so sorry for your lose mate, will keep an eye out for the gear hope you find it

Double-edged sword for me...
...not only did my bag of jigs/assists/swivels/rings disappear (about $400 worth), the likely culprit was one of my two sons who need to fund their pot habit...

time to kick some arse
time to kick some arse auslobster. my old man was old school and would've belted me black and blue if i ever disrespected him in such a way as stealing from him. especially for a drug habit. society is too soft these days and young blokes think they can get away with anythng. stand up for yourself and teach your boy a lesson he'll remember forever which will benefit him and your future grandkids

Not that simple, mate...
...I'm away at work most of the time and their mum is no longer around...I don't think coming home on a 4 and 1 roster and periodically beating them is going to fix the problem. They are traveling well at their work/school, I just have to be more vigilant with my stuff.

speaking from similiar experance
I have a son who was in the clutches of drugs for approximately 10 years. That ended 15 years ago.
He has been out of the forest (as I call it) for about 15 years. I am very very proud of him and the way he has turned his life around and is going so well at a job in the mining sector and socially with all new friends.
I'm not qualified in any way to give advice, but I can tell you what worked for us.
We never stopped loving him and telling him so and reinforcing that message by a touch on the shoulder or a hug (he was 12 when we discovered what was going on). We didn't embarrass him by doing it in front of his school mates etc. This may be hard for you, we lost all my wife's jewellery lots of money and just about everything else that a dollar value could be put on.
We decided (wife and I) that we wouldn't let bloody drugs take him and that we where going to do everything we could to get him out of it's grip.
We quickly found that there is no silver bullet, so we spent many hours over months and years talking openly to him about the drugs he was taking, listening to him tell us what he felt when taking them and to a lot of miss beliefs he held about how it wasn't harmful etc and a lot of crap that you didn't want to hear but you had to to keep it close touch with him.
The one thing we also found out very quickly wss not lecture him not to put him or his so called mates down (they are in as much trouble as your son) It took a long time and tested us many many times it would have been so very easy to walk away.
I've prattled on to much on this thread, sorry to all members for going on so much but it's a big ticket item in my life.
Auslobster please feel free to pm me if I can be of help to you and your son, you have a big battle on your hands but it's worth fighting and winning.

Sorry to hear that
Sorry to hear that auslobster. I one day hope my 3 y old boy and my 9 month old daughter don't take that path in life. But I'm a firm believer in karma and its a bitch. I've worked hard for everything I have in life and took me a long time to save up some coin for that gear. Hopefully I can replace it rather than sooner

thumbs up meglodon. sorry if
thumbs up meglodon. sorry if i have offended you auslobster, things are different these days from when i was a kid. although i do understand what its like to be a drug addict, very hard to change a lifestyle but so very worth it once the addict wakes up to the real world and the time they have wasted. like meglodon has said, its a long, testing road but worth the travel in the end. although saying your son is travelling well yet is a pot addict is a bit of a contradiction, unfortunately i know from experience and i hope he wakes up sooner rather than later like myself. best wishes aus!

Thanks fellas...
...one thing I do know is that I will never give up on them (I have four sons; two of them smoke)...they have all been through a terrible time and as I said earlier they have managed to push forward and in spite of the weed problem I continue to get positive reports from their employers/teachers.
For what it's worth, the oldest (now 20) and the youngest (13) were the ones who went fishing with me all the time and they're the ones who aren't caught up with the pot...
