Stickbaits advice
Submitted by Ethan A on Sun, 2018-03-11 15:33
Hi guys
As the salmon season is fast approaching l have been preparing all my gear for the season any way this year l want to give stick baits and other hard body lures a shot my question is does using snap swivels effect the way the lure swims should l just tie the Uni straight to the lure or is there other better methods for attaching lures to your leader like using a swivel to a split ring? Also the stickbait l am using is a halco c-gar in the back black colour what type of retrieve should l use?
Thanks in advance

There are various lure clips
There are various lure clips you can get from your local tackle shop. I use the c- gar sometimes. Best to have a few different types of lures. In saying that, when they're hungry they'll chew anything !!!!

Just keep it moving, salmon aren’t fussy.

Can be
They can be Dale. Just ask all the boat owners that sat around the Mewstona area last year and struggled for fish when they were swimming right under them.
Generally you are correct though. They would be one of the least fussy fish

Can open or be bitten in half
I have had both happen with clip swivels so now will not use them

split ring to the swivel for
split ring to the swivel for me if you want a swivel in the rig.. Or a loop knot of some sort if you don't want the swivel
As for action I find the c-gar needs to be twitched a bit to impart some action as the lure doesn't have much of its own action. It sinks pretty quick too which would be good for salmon. For max cast distance also pack a righter plug
