Was out last night chasing pinks and on the way home i had a graphite plastics rod in the rocket launcher when that lightning came thru. Anyway i starting hearing a click. It got louder and more frequent.i thought it was my flood light or white light so i turned them both off. Kept happening so i had a look and could see a flash coming out the bottom of the rocket launcher.it stopped as soon as i went under the garden island bridge..must have happened for a minute or so..has any body had this happened?. Lightning was directly above me.
Needed a new pair of pants when i got home lol.

Yup I've had it before. All
Yup I've had it before. All the hair on my arms was standing on end. Reminded me of the sound you hear from a wet power pole. Lay the rods on the floor in future and lower aerials

Graphite rods are conductive
Having them in a rod holder, particularly if you are in a tinny, makes them a lightning rod. Google it, there are a few pictures out there. It would have been discharging static build up.

Stuff that.
We were on the James Service and saw that storm coming down. But the boat was well and truely on the trailer before it was anywhere near us. Hate lightning when near the water.
Get any fish? We only managed a 52cm Pink.

happened a couple of months ago
had that same sizzling sound getting louder as the storm approached
felt like a big lightning conductor out in the middle of the ocean. haha
maybe the site sponsors should start selling special brown undies for fishing when there is lightning forecast?

Yeah beach fishing one night was getting electric shocks
thought it was time to pack it away before the big one. Also when you put your finger near the rod it would arc across a little blue spark
