Solid brass rods
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2009-04-02 15:04
Would anyone one know where I might be able to pick up some solid brass rod? I have gotten the urge to start making my own lures again,
Many thanks, Colin Hay

Mate its used in the building trade as electrical earth steakes around homes.

I thought you meant fishing
I thought you meant fishing rods when I saw the title which I thought was a little odd.
Roughly what size are you looking for Colin?

I don't need a very long piece Matt
Something about 20 cm in diameter should be fine.

Whoops, yeah milimetres. 20 cm would make some pretty big

You slice the brass rods on a 33 to 45 degree angle
Polish them up a bit, drill a hole at each end. One for a ring with a treble and one just for a ring (to which you can attach a snap swivel if you want) and you have yourself a homemade metal lure. My fishing mentor only had those in his tackle box when he travelled around Australia and they kept him, his wife and son fed for 6 months.
Neal, you can use bronze, and they work ok, but the brass will last a lot longer. Stainless steel rods also work good.
Thanks for all the input everyone.
If I can get them happening I will post up some pics.
many thanks Colin
