Soft Plastics - Changing from Gulp to Zmans

Hi all,
I just converted from bait to soft plastics. Less smell, yay.
Been using Gulp nuclear chicken shads and curly tails mostly.
Question with Zmans, what type of jig heads do you use for softies
1/6 or 1/12?......... both for jetty and beach.
I have been using gulp with small jig heads, fish do strike but fish break off when i am reeling them in.
* been using slow retrieve and small jigging.
How can i improve my strike and retention rate? I usually fish at night. Do Zmans illuminate at night?
I dont use burley.

f you are talking about
f you are talking about bream..
you can go as light as 1/20, even 1/28 jigheads. is the fish breaking the line or falling off? assuming you are using braid to flouro? is it breaking at the knot?
some zmans are uv. such as motor oil, copper penny, amber. best why to see is by getting a small uv light and shning on them. can be brought from tackle shops fairly cheap. retrieve sounds about right, but pauses ever now and then might help and watch for the tick' in the line. what species are you going for?
