Hey guys went fishing at Hillarys last night. one of the guys i was fishing with had a brain fart while casting and his fishing rod ended up in the drink. Was sitting for about 10 minutes before we could retieve it. What would be the best thing to do with the reel now-its an abu garcia so not a cheap reel. Would having it serviced be the best course of action ?
ps lots of herring action off the lighthouse point and a baby tailor.

get it in a bucket of fresh
get it in a bucket of fresh water asap and let it soak!! if you can find it there is a product called salt away which you mix in the water and it lifts the salt out of reels otherwise you could strip out the reel yourself and wipe it all dry and regrease but if your not sure bring it to someone who knows how to do it andd they should be able to save it.

Strip it
Pull it to bits and give it a good spray with CRC, WD40, Lanogard or one along those lines. Wipe it all off and grease the bearing etc then put it back together .
Make sure you get all the water out from between the drag washers
