Snapper ban( fisheries)

Watching fisheries at Henderson , watching yakkas fishing around rockwalls.. keep in mind you are not allowed to chase pinks at all . Not even catch and realease . They must be going for sambos or mullys by the looks. Just for those who are unsure of rules. And are just out for fun. Just check regs. Not worth the fine.

Catch plenty of herring, squid, skippy, silver bream around those rock walls if you spend the time looking.

I regularly target gummies

Thu, 2017-10-05 07:53

And can only recall one incident where I hooked a snapper as by catch, it broke me off when lines crossed with a big gummy hooked at the same time.  Fisheries stopped me at the ramp that night and had no issue whatsoever after looking in the esky to see several topped, tailed and finned gummies.

If they are doing the wrong

Thu, 2017-10-05 09:38

If they are doing the wrong thing, book their arses. However, don't lump all of the yakkers in to the same shit pile as the vast majority of us do the right thing all the time

Fri, 2017-10-06 21:57

the way i read the post is just a warning out there for all. the yakkers were just mentioned as they tend to stay in close. hes not saying that they do anything wrong.

just take this as a friendly tip.

there are plenty of fishos out there that do the wrong thing weather it be a stinkboat as some call them or a yakker.

Dont jump the gun. Unless you see someone keeping a snapper presume theyre going for legal fish. Let the fisheries do there job, dont need any public crucifictions.

Heads up!

Sat, 2017-10-07 13:31

Little Johnny is just giving people a heads up and yes many people dont know that catch & release of pink snapper is illegal in the Sounds!

Every year when I'm tagging I tell people (only a handful doing the wrong thing) about the C & R being illegal and some know and some choose to ignore!

If they persist (C & R) whilst I'm near them Fisheries request us taggers to take their boat details and Fisheries will do a door knock (several door knocks done last year)!

Sat, 2017-10-07 21:46

It would pay fisheries to spend a bit of time around the Saxon Ranger wreck in Warnbro sound towards the end of the season - always a few muppets who don't know the regs or just can't help themselves.

Put up. Some people don't honestly know. I wasn't having dig at anyone at all. Yakkas are gurus at pinks . All I was trying to do was warn people . Unless you are an authorised tagger don't touch them . Rules are f--ket at best of times to understand. No digs at anyone at all . Sorry if anyone misunderstood what I was trying to say . I would hate someone getting done for something they love to do ( catch and release).
