Skippy /whiting combo

Hi guys,

Looking to buy new combo for fishing for skippy/whiting etc off boat in depths ranging from 5-40m.

Want something light that makes it fun bit not too light in case get a bigger bycatch.

Budget - upto $250.

Cheers for advice.

theres a special on at BCF at the moment Shimano Symetre Reel and SHimano Sahara rod for $149. I just bought the 2500 reel with 2-5kg rod, Great little combo and an even better price considering RRP is over $200 normally!

Cheers for ideas.

So should I be looking for a rod in the 2-5kg class and a 2500 reel then for this type of fishing ?

Yep.  I use a 2-5kg rod.  2500 reel 8lb braid with 10lb leader.  HEAPS of fun for skippy.  They pull line and put a big bend in the rod.   But if I bought another combo I'd go a 1-3kg rod, stick with the 2500, but switch to 6lb braid and 8lb leader.

only my experience,  but remember when your chasing the good sandies in 30 m plus you have to have a decent sinker down.  might consider something fairly solid...
