Shimano Tiagra 130A help ?

hey fellas my father recently won a tiagra 130A in a fishing competiton in  QLD, his in the aim of chasing big sharks and marlin. as he travels alot.

he wants to run 80lb mono

and according to the reel diameter of mono it says he should get about 1600m's of 80lb.

now he wants too know what the best lines avaliable that come in a 80lb 2000m spool best suited for the 130a

thanks fellas appreciate the help.

Spool up my 4 x 50WLRS from a 2400m spool of 80lb each year (top shot)

of stren hi-vis from Gameboats in NSW - hope this helps.

I would also agree to spool a 130 with 60kg, as thats what it's made for (you need a chair to fish it though)

I like the stren as you can

I like the stren as you can actually see the line (and its a good line). Big game really needs to come in one high vis orange colour (they'd still have the blue, green and clear for those who like that). Think big game might be a bit stiffer than some at that thickness though? Dont know how much that matters though.

thanks fellas im finding it

Fri, 2011-11-18 19:33

thanks fellas im finding it hard to find it a spool with at least 2km the average is about a 1000 or 1200m spool which wont bee enough.

the best i have found so far are the tortue in a 3km spool of 80lb been recomended as one of the best lines ?

he needs at least a 2km spool most only do a 1000 or 1200m as i said its hard to find a 2km + spool costs a bit too.

I'm going to side with jamos

I'm going to side with jamos here. A 130 is a huge reel. May as well spool it up with 60 kg then fish as much as he can hang onto. I take it it will be used for chair fishing? Not at all practical for standup. An 80 is pushing it.

Standup fishing a 130 would

Standup fishing a 130 would be tough just winding the baits clear let alone hanging onto one with a fish on it, sell it and get an 80 would be the go or for a complete rethink a Penn VSX (for the higher drag capability)50 with 1000 or so meters of 80lb Jerry brown line one hollow and a top shot of a hundred meters of IGFA 37kg mono, much easier to handle IMO.

With that much line out the water pressure will ping the line.

As Daisy said go an 80 with a dacron backing and topshot it with mono

Go into campbels and look at the 130A they have in stock. The thing is Huge!!   I fish a Tiargra 50WLRS on the road you describe and I used that stand up with a harness. No way would I want to even attempt the 130A  on the rod, it would be increddible top heavy even with a harness. As others have said sell the 130a and get something a litte more suited.

Cheers
