Self centre trailer mods
Submitted by dale 308 on Sun, 2021-11-28 19:39
I need too up date the rear of my trailer is a pain in the ass at the best of times and the transom or tapered bunk rollers are giving me hell so I was thinking of removing them and placing some of that blue bunk on either side angled towards the centre roller and replace centre roller with a self centre roller would that work. Crude drawing incoming

Trailer
Google up roxom trailer parts, they make a kit to do exactly what you want and fairly reasonably priced too.
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !

I was looking at the same
I was looking at the same sort of thing but already had the roller. Now just getting a new trailer.
Your idea would work as long as the bunks are just before the roller or it may not run straight onto the roller .

Looks good to me.Are you
Looks good to me.
Are you trying to drive on?
I have a drive on trailer but never try, I always have a decky so find it easier just to winch on.
The self centering rollers are good, but mine (blue hard) needs replacing after about 80 hours of use. Not a big deal, but I was expecting more out of it. The original on there was a red (soft) one, I don't think it was actually doing the job of self centering.

Same
I did the same on the old trailer but left the rollers supporting the hull.
I put a couple of rows in so that the bow would be guided to the centre roller but they didnt take the weight once fully on.
Didnt bother with self centering rollers

We have a Quintrex renegade
We have a Quintrex renegade as a work boat, the trailer supplied is set up as your drawing but without the self centering roller, the key with setting up this style is to have the bunks slightly higher than the edges of the roller and in front of it, drive boat into the trailer at a slow pace, allow boat to hit the bunk and should guide itself to the roller, straitened up the boat, line up the winch post then ease on the power

EXACTLY..
what I did to my Stacer, but I winch (fast power) on. Makes retreiving so much easier and safer.
btw... my boating is mostly beach launch/retrieve in waves and swell. Fast retreival method is EVERYTHING!

Winch
I winch on its mainly to help with the first alignment. Especially when I have my 7 year old with me getting on the first roller is a pain

Use aluminium rollers. Best
Use aluminium rollers. Best thing I have bought. One drive down a track ruins normal rollers and they never roll again. You can get them on ebay. Probably five years old now and still going strong. They are just normal plastic rollers with a layer of aluminium over the top.
