See temperature charts

Who uses which temperature chart? After a season of no success with trolling I am looking into investing in a surface temperature map. And I am wondering what everyone is using and what your experience is with the charts. I also just got a 5m boat and only can get out to about 50m deep and I am not sure if its worth it either. If anyone got some input would be much appreciated

Thanks Seb

Trolling

Hi Seb what does the size of the boat have to do with the depth that you fish ??

I have a 5 m cc and regularly fish the 100m line , is this a self imposed limit or a fuel capacity issue for you ??

If your into trolling for mackies then I would be looking for reef breaks, big depth changes etc not necessarily deeper water unless your chasing bigger pelagics , also look for current lines and cleaner water changes ..

Hope that helps cheers fishfish

Boat Size

I gave myself a limit. My boat hasn't got much freeboard and to get to 50meter from Hillary you look at 30km out. Which is enough for me. I would like to get out further but for that I would prefer a larger boat.

Thanks for the tips I have a look for that next time I try.

My mate has paid for one of the sites that does sea temps. I would not say it is crucial info, but certainly gives you extra confidence to go out and troll in specific areas with a bit more confidence.

That's what I was hoping to achieve. Do you think its helpful in the area north of Rotto towards Two Rocks and about 30-35km off shore or just for bigger boats that can reach the trench and that area?

I went out there a few times in my 5.4 Trailcraft, so it is do-able, but had some pretty hairy moments coming home with a stiff south wester.......be careful!
