Sea temp for rotto swim
Submitted by GGs on Mon, 2015-02-16 11:15
Hey guys,
Did anyone head over to rotto yesterday and know what the water temp was between freo and south rotto?
I was told that this time last year it was still quite cold at only mid 21C but from what ive seen so far this year is warmer.
Cheers

i was just thinking about the swim - weather doesnt look to flash (still early), not going to be a comfy ride by the looks like last year.
20knot sotherlies usually mean a 1-2 metre sea

Last year was great weather
Cheers for that mate.
Last year was great weather wise with hardly any swell or surface chop.
The long range forcast ive got for freo/rotto is 11-14kn ESE swinging to SSE at 11am but then the seabreeze will come in strong by about 2pm. +12kn SSE will bring in a bit of chop but hope to be within 5km of rotto by that stage and certianly at the pub by 2pm.
Fingers crossed!

And then have 1 beer!!!!
The Pub no longer has that good feel of the past. Every drink sooo overpriced. I think aimed at only the elite can drink there. 1 Pint of beer and a Recordeling cider cost me $26 a round!!!!!

Theres your problem mate Rekorderling will send you broke! The most overpriced liquid sugar around.
I have to agree though its not a cheap place for a beer and a pub meal.

Wind
Im keeping a pretty keen eye on the weather for the swim too. If its anything like last Saturday it will be a nightmare. The forecast on willyweather looks a bit better should be easterly at the start if you go by that. I find it can be a little bit better than seabreeze these days.

From what ive been told thats almost 2C warmer than last year which is great for the swimmers.
Water temp wont bother me cause im skipper but its my mates first solo crossing after doing a couple of duo swims so keeping warm is top priority.
Fleece lined budgies do sound nice though...
