Have witnessed diving
Have witnessed diving schools of hundreds of dhu at the abs all between 7 and 12 kg estimated, talking dhu everywhere you look around a big bombie.
Believe this is a spawn school and that dhu can spawn at any time in the year as it happens over different months. Also believe it happens in different areas and depths.
the rest of the time I think they are in much smaller groups down to solitary. But have seen many groups of 5 to 10 fish.

I remember a trip to jurian years ago in 10 metres inside the reef when it went off and we caught about 10 big duies and let most of them go,only ever seen that once

Schooling Dhuies
Today when the fish were feedind the boat caught 5 Dhuies, they were all under and all released with a release weight. This was all at the one spot. A couple of years ago at a different spot the boat caught 9 Dhuies, so in my opinion they can and do school up.
Ocean bound is where I'll be found

schooling dhu
i took my 89 year old uncle out in my boat on the weekend. From the early
1940's to the late 1960's he was a professional between the capes + after
that up north. He said in the early 50's he came across a 'king school' of dhuies
( Edited ). It was 3oo yards across and 350 wide and solid fish.
He fished it every second day for two weeks for an average 50 big fish a day.
All on rod + reel. In fact he's probably caught more duies by hand than any man
alive. Great company in the boat, the stories are amazing and they all ring true.
So the answer is yes they do.

bloody oath
seen many a school! and i have one spot where they school up at a certain time of year every year! and its alot closer to shore than most people would dream! when we first found it it was like a school of bait fish on the surface just a calm oily patch! we must have pulled 80 dhuies from this spot over the years and it still produces!
