Submitted by unhurry on Tue, 2014-10-21 16:45
My Dad iscoming to Australia for a visit ( from South Africa) in April next year - he has bought himself a second hand daiwa saltiga loaded with 80lb braid and he is keen to do some jigging.
I hope to introduce him to soem sambo and ytk action in our local waters.
I am looking for some tips at to where to locate these fish launching Bunbury ( preferable) or Port Geographe marina.
Thanks for all comments.

What's the boats range? I
What's the boats range? I don't know Bunbury's waters that well enough to comment on the Sambo's but Port Geo is going to place you better IMO to tangle with some of the big fella's & also the kings should start to thicken up soon.

cheers
thanks for your replies.
Lamby, boat is 6 metre, happy to go 30 mile if needs be, though I am sure that there are good areas closer in for ytk / sambo action.
Australiamaid, appreciate the pointer; due west 20 miles that would be.
deforce, pm coming your way

Cape Nat
Hey mate if your happy to launch from port geo then head about 10nm off the cape and sound around. There are some big bommies/pinacles out there that the YTKs school around. Im sure you will also find them alot closer in as ive had some unstoppables in about 25m of water off the cape aswell. It will really start to fire soon with the warm weather on its way.
Have caught rat sambos around 6-8kg off capel(ish) in about 15m if you'd rather launch from Bunbury... im sure there would be a few big ones in the mix.
Hope that helps.

I've only heard of YTK coming
I've only heard of YTK coming in deep water from out far off Bunbury, haven't heard of any being caught close in.
The Cape area is probably your best bet to target the Seriola's. Have caught a few off Bunno, but it's a bit of a hit and miss. Would love to find a spot close in, off Bunno for consistent sambo action!

hit any 30 metre line reef,
hit any 30 metre line reef, and sound around you will see them, they will be about 5-10 metres of the bottom.
if your in close, just anchor up near any reef and burley up - you will soon see the shadows show up

YTK's
I always used to go slow past Cape Natto and in close like 30 meters off with a couple of lures out the back and caught quite a number of YTK's that way.
