Going over to rotto for christmas and I'm wondering what fish you will ctach off the back of a boat moared in thomson's bay?
Also is it worth dangling a squid jig over the edge?
We also have a kayak
Thanks, Andrew

Thomson bay is a great spot
Thomson bay is a great spot to moar up and have a bit of a fish and a few bevies. Get a bit of a berly trail going and u should catch plenty of herring and snook, possibly gar fish too. Deffinently worth throwing out a squid jig too, with all those weed beds in the bay there should be a squid around. Always a few king geogre lurking around that area too, so mite be worth taken a paddle on the yak to look for some sand patches in the weed and drop down a fresh, lightly weighted squid tenticle. Good luck mate im sure ull enjoy it!

If you get some nice weather
If you get some nice weather it would be worth taking the kayak out into the 20's and drop some soft plastics not to sure on the distance but couldnt be more than a kilometre or 2. You will usually pick up a few blackass and plenty of skippy you might have the odd harlequin or little dhuie show up aswell. If ure into sport fishin try cubing a few mulies and setting up a burley trail you can expect to get into a few small kingfish at this time of year.
