Rod question

 Hi

I've got a 7"6 ugly stick overhead rod, that I used to run on a Daiwa Saltiga overhead. I sold the overhead recently though, and have no use for the rod now. I want to know if I am able to use this overhead rod as a spin rod now? It has no trigger grip so I think it will be OK.

Also the EVA on the rod butt is really long, I want to know if I can trim it down so it's not so long? How can I do this?

Yes you can use it. It may not cast very well but you won't know until you try it. To shorten the rear grip you have to cut it to the right length, strip back some of the EVA then glue a butt cap back on. Only strip enough EVA to allow the cap to fit. You may need to pack the blank out a little with masking tape until the cap fits snugly over it prior to the glue.
