Rod ideas for my xmas prezzie!

Hey, just looking for some advice on what rod to buy to target landbased sharks.

I have a penn 950 to put on the rod. I'm looking for a rod that will cast heavy weights and that i could use for sliding baits. My budget is approx $250(maybe a little more).

I have been using the search function and looking all over the net, and i have found some great reviews of more expensive rods like loomis and frankling shockwave, poseidon 5 tip and gary howard LBG spin.

I also looked at live fibre, which are more my price range, but couldn't really find any info about people using them for sliding.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

cheers matt

live fibre texillium? they are going pretty cheap or spend some more on a willson veneom 8 foot something in what ever line class you're going to use, I have one matched up to a VS 80 okuma and the veneom pe8 that I use for fishing my local waters chasing sharks,

live fibre

alot of south oz anglers use live fibres in the 12ft+ range to chase mulloway and sharks, I find them to be heavy rods to hold onto for long periods of time.  what length are you looking at?

In that price range you might be able to get a Gary Howard LBG, I think there is a 2nd hand one for sale on here somewhere for under $200

if you can pick up a poseidon for that price you wont be dissapointed, I have landed sharks up to 2m on my Posiedon Bantam no worries

Looms and franklin shockwave

Mon, 2012-12-10 07:42

I've imported the loomis and franklin from South Africa for 220 plus shipping. It comes with 3 tips 4,6 and 7oz tips. The 6oz tip casts a whole herring with no dramas and the 7oz tip I use for sliding.

Well worth the money

I imported a Poseidon 5

Mon, 2012-12-10 09:15

I imported a Poseidon 5 Bantam from South Africa in January. It cost me $200 for the rod and $100 for shipping back then.

The current price of the rod now works out to be about $150 so you should be able to get it shipped to you for under $250.

It has 3 end tips, so you can choose 5, 6, or 7oz
