Red Emperor Data..Old fish for their size

Hi everyone,
Just thought I would share some red emperor data for the North Western WA and Kimberly coastline that a mate in the fisheries gave to me recently.
I was blown away by the age of these fish for such a small size compared to our QLD red emperor fishery. A red around 80cm or 10kg here in QLD is approx 10 years old.
Going off that data I'm confused why red emperor only have a 41cm size limit in WA. These fish are still female and well in truly in prime breeding time. On the flip side i guess they have had many years to breed around those smaller sizes.

yep
From the spangled emperor data we collected, they were around 3-4 years old at 41cm and 2.5 years when they reached sexual maturity around 23-25cm. Certainly are old fish when they get into those larger size brackets.
