problem with saltist HELP!!

hey guys, i dunno if its only my saltist with the problem or its normal, but i cant cast properly with my saltist with big baits and leads,no idea why?i know thumbing it and all as i can cast other o/h and b/c fine, but when i cast it backlash as soon as i let go my thumb, and half way between hitting the water it backlashes, and i get a birds nest, all the time when it happen, but i can bomb out just leads by them self 40-50m,no idea why,but maybe its to do with the speed the line is coming out of the spool,i tried tightening the cast control then it becomes too tight and when i loosen it it become too loose, any ideas why this is happening?im running 50lb sunline ,braid..help!!

theres a real nack

it might be the braid is over laping as its comming off the spool cose its running off to fast....
or just your thumbing techniqe just isnt right normally i thumb the spool from when i cast...
and stop it just before i would hit the water... so you stop the spool/slow it down heaps with ya thumb before it hits the water....

im no pro but ill come have a look one day if ya want... pm me...

tight linezzzzzzzz.....
cheers andyrew

If its doing it as soon as

If its doing it as soon as you cast then the spool tension is too low. Do up the knob in the middle of the RHS sideplate until the cast load isn't taking line when dangled out of gear, then back it off a bit.

Line digging in...

Mon, 2009-05-18 23:05

...as mentioned before, if the reel was spooled up with improper tension, the braid can dig into itself, which stops it from exiting the reel during cast.

You also said that it casts fine with the sinker only. Remember that large baits act like a parachute when casted...initial speed of line at beginning of cast is good, but then slows rapidly while spool keeps revolving at same speed, which equals backlash/birdsnest. To get around this, try an impact sinker, which "streamlines" your bait/sinker combo and helps you to maintain a constant speed during the entire cast.

casting with mine with real

Mon, 2009-05-18 23:06

casting with mine with real heavy weight i leave my thumb with the lightest of tension takes a while to get the knack but i find rods seem to have a big influace with mine as well if just chucking out unweighted baits i take a softer rod but if casting heavy weight i use my stiffer one sweet reel though keep at it try different things youl find a style that suits you

Hi OT You haven't turned the cast control the wrong way have you

The Saltist's do run fairly quick, so maybe try tightening up the star drag slightly if you have tried tightening the cast control up.

Otherwise it may be a line problem.

It cant be the spooling

Tue, 2009-05-19 16:07

It cant be the spooling because after every cast he isnt putting the line back on the spool with high tension
