Polycraft Boats

I'm looking at changing my rig from a 5.5 mtr ali half cab to more of an alrounder for the pilbara and something I can handle by myself. Looking at the trailcraft profish (had one before) and I see polycraft do a range in the same configuration. If anyone has had any experiences good or bad with the polycraft range, would be great if you could give me the good oil.

Cheers Fozz

i don't have one persoanlly but i have researched them. thay are a solid boat. heavier than ali but not as much as a fiberglass but better hull and the plastic absorbs the pounding action of the waves.

know a bloke that has a 5.99 cuddy and he raves about it all the time. he has owned other boat types.

they get good reviews especially the 4.80 brumby(new model).

what size you looking at?

i would cetainly look at them if i ever upgrade or replace.

cc for me of side console.

i would however look seriuosly at the price on the East Coast as they are cheaper over there, even if ya truck one over

you can hit em with a hammer

but seriously, they seem to have stood the test of time (regarding "degredation" issues), sit like a "hybrid" between ali and glass for ride comfort and they can take a fair beating against rocks etc. I think it would be ideally suited to the pilbara personally. Not the cheapest rigs to buy, but then again neither is a profish.

What polycraft - the 4.8m or 5.3m?

Cheers Huggy/Damo,

Probably looking at the 4.8mtr for cost and cyclone storage, heard anything about the UV factor, as she gets abit warm up here? They look like a solid boat, assuming they don't have a problem with flexing in the heavier conditions?

apparently all is good with UV, check there website for details. can always throw a cover over if not stored in the garage.

least ya dont get electrolosis with plastic.

i would personally buy a rear centre console 4.80 Brumby. they get the best reviews and the rear concole allows for a better ride as the whole hull can flex with the pounding wave action. easy handle a 4 st 80hp motor. good selection of options such as casting platforms up front

the flexing is a favourable addition to the ride, remember the hull is actually made up off two skins and a hollow in the middle. completely designed to absorb the wave action.

looking at them at the last boat show they are a perfect size and easy to handle single. would deffinitely place in my top 3 if/when i repalce my current boat.

Definitely going to price one up and see how they stack up against the pro-fish. Yes the rear offset console are the way to go I believe as apposed to the c/c.

Cheers again.

i had one for years.fantastic boat mine was the first 455 in the state .took it all over the place from mandurah to exmouth i cant fault them awesome stability even with 4 or 5 large blokes on you dont need to worry about what you are doing like in a tinny.i did gamex in it over 500nm in 2 weeks from gulf to the murions and out to 200+meters for marlin.i sold it to a guy in exmouth called ali barber he used it for salt water fly .if i was to move up north i would get another one in a heartbeat .i would get a brumby or the 5.3 cc .any questions just ask

i would go to exmouth and dump it on the reef put the anchor on the reef and wait for the tide to come in no damage .the only thing i will say is they dont like staying on the trailer so you will need to fish more.in the heat they can bend a little if you have this happen you just put the bung in and leave off the trailer for a day but for them to distort you need alot of heat for a long time .easy fixed just use it more .     damn honey i need to go out fishing .

like i said fozz, the only thing i would check out is the heat factor, you dont have much shade for the old girl at your place (otherwise im sure it would be awesome) and ground surface temp in the pilbara can crack 50degrees !EASY! in summer quite frequently. Dont want a saggy bottom like its owner mate
You can treat an ally boat like shit and she will still love you back, we all know you sacrafice ride with ally though...

$30k was about ball park, my mate was looking at one and that was the going rate in the eastern states.

As for degrdation from heat, check out your wheely bin - same material, just not as thick. And if it's exposed to weather, regardless of whether it's ali, f/g or plastic - it should probably be under some kind of cover anyways.......

I was thinking the storage at my joint, but a boat that size I can park in the car port, no probs. Still gonna get a quote comparsion between poly and the trailcraft in the same size/config. and take it from there.

Yeah, there is not one

Thu, 2008-11-13 08:24

Yeah, there is not one picture on their site with a bimni, or worse still, a t-top.

I've got quite a bit of experience with rotomoulding, an old family business used to make ag equip which used rotomoulded tanks extensively, from 5 to 5000l.

Rotomouled HDPE is great for screwing fittings into, its hard to damage and easy to repair, but bolting in something as structural as a t-top sure would give it a workout, its quite soft.
