Pet insurance

After purchasing a new puppy (Rotweiler) I am after thoughts on pet insurance and who through. I know it probably is a personal choice but just wanting to know from others that have it. Is it worth it and does it cover for a lot of things. Cheers

Petplan
use petplan most vets say are the best payers with least hassle. Make sure you check the policy as genetic defects like skin allergies and dysplasia are excluded by some (rottie susceptible to dysplasia) as they claim pre-existing condition.
Nice pup too, looking for Rottie myself atm

I have rspca but read the fine print they stitched me up recently. My dog had already done his right knee and a year and a bit later did the other knee and they won't cover the new injury as they don't cover bi-lateral conditions...in other words if the dog has 2 of them they won't cover the same condition in the other

I'll be keeping an eye on this. Our Red Heeler had to have a broken tooth removed a couple of years ago and we didn't get much change out of a grand. 3 weeks ago she got touched up by the loader at work. Could of been worse but she got a ten cent piece sized chunk out of her front leg. Up to about $900 on that now. I will look into pet insurance after we get her sorted.

Get insurance
Get the insurance before any problems arise. I think all insurance for pets are much the same, any pre-existing conditions will not be covered. So while they're a puppy with no dramas then you should be covered for most things.
Our Dogue cost us a fortune in vet bills over his five year life span. Being a large breed cost of meds and treatment is through the roof. Basicly he was on the same (if not more )of a dosage that a grown man would be on due to his weight. I would assume a Rottie would be much the same. My misses was spewing because she wanted to take insurance out on him and I said it won't be needed. Lesson learnt, any future flea bags will have insurance.

Have been with pet plan for
Have been with pet plan for my Staffy for years and until about 6 months ago they were great. Right up until Alliance took over as underwriters, when I got a letter titled "same great policy, great new look".... That cost almost double in monthlys ($95 up from $50) and excess up from $95 to $145. With less coverage than the previous 5 years I'd been with them. as my boys getting on now I cant switch to anyone else so have to cop it sweet. Rang them up to enquire about the massive jumps and was told it was the "new procedure" with the new underwriters and they would be reviewing (aka increasing) prices annually from now on. So basically they will be offering cheap and reasonable coverage for the first few years of your pups life, then trap you when you can no longer go elsewhere and as their need for the insurance increases. Also extremely rude over the phone, and trust me, I was being polite as with them. Be very careful with them is my advice, I'm stuck with them but wouldn't want others to put up with the same shit I have to.

22 ammo is still cheap enough. I'm sure the mrs cats is an expert at hiding any type of sickness.

We recently had our youngest Beagles jatz crackers removed, he got microchipped and tattooed at the same time for about $340. Not bad value I thought.

Pet Insurance is a bigger rip
Pet Insurance is a bigger rip off than the Vets are.
They know how attached some people get to their dogs and use that against them. Definately get prices from different vets as some are alot cheaper than others.

Pet plan.....especially for
Pet plan.....especially for big dogs... We have a boerbol bitch 60kgs aprox, she done acl witch was $4,500...skin and problems and injections X-rays ear problems had a sist removed all up totaling around 18g plus this is all in first 5 years of its life.
if you have a pure bread dog they are usually prone to chit happening to them..and bigger dogs means bigger vet bills.
If I had to pay all those cost the dog wouldn't been around today.which would suck.

Pet plan for sure! Had 4 or 5 claims with them and no dramas getting money back..
Dog has had 3 surgeries on his knee alone totalling around 10k and they covered it!
Couple of weeks ago he had a tiny cyst in his eye, which was removed and they covered that too, have recommended anyone who gets a puppy to get pet insurance. For 40$ Odd a month it pays off in the long run!

I would never buy into the whole pet insurance scam. There is alot they dont or wont cover, you need to go through the PDS with a fine toothed comb.
As much as i love my dog, if he needed vet work done that far outweighed his initial purchase value plus the value of a new pup....i would be taking him on a heartbreaking trip out to the farm.
My missus got stung with her pet insurance. she made one claim which wasnt an issue, free yearly vaccs or something... anyway the next claim was less than her excess at about $180 so they wouldnt fork out any money for it unless she wanted to pay her $200 excess as there had already been one claim.
After deciding that was pathetic and trying to cancel the insurance she was told she would have fork out the remaining months worth of cover as an early closure fee which was around $200. This was medibank pet insurance.
Good things come to those who bait.

We have Pet Plan for our
We have Pet Plan for our French Bulldog and it is definately worth it!
The breeder took out the cover for the first month for us and then we took it over but she paid any excess up until 6 months old which was good as a lot of pedigree dogs have problems.
He had to have an operation on his eye when he was only a few months old so it's paid for itself for a few years already.
Easy to claim and the insurance paid fairly quickly too.
