But if your local shop has run out, give that blue with the black spots a go. That's done just as well for me as the NC.
Gulps are great but I think people are buying them at such a great rate that many shops are stocking up on them and taking shelf space away from "normal" soft plastics, like Powerbaits and McArthy's, which don't smell as bad and you can leave them on your hook between trips/spots without them drying out.
Normal softies work just as well as Gulps/Slams/organic baits if you're willing to use the right gear (light, graphite rods/braided lines) and use it properly.
It's all about the action and correct jig head for the conditions. I fish 1/4 0z to 1/2 Jig Heads in 15 - 30 metres whether at anchor or drifting. Always cast out toward the drift, opposite side of the boat to where you would drift baits. Fast action for Palegics and very very slow action for demersals.
But predominately I only use soft plastics and metal jigs when you go out on those days when moon, tide etc aren't right.
If I was going out tomorrow which I can't, I'd fish baits because high tide has some good metres and is just after sunrise with also being just before a full moon. SNAPPER TIME!
