North mole snapper baits?

Anyone know some good snapper baits for the north mole? I heard half a herring was good and are muelies effective?

Chunks of herring are probably my favorite bait for pinkies, but the downside is stingrays can smell herring for miles away and snaffle them up. Blue mackerel are probably my favorite all round fish bait though.

Cheers

I might just use gardies. I've never caught any gardies yet but what would work best, sinking burley cage or floating? Would squid be best bait for gardies?

And should i use half a gardie or whole?
