North Mole

Hi all,

Have decided to try go for a night fishing session at North Mole but not too sure what to expect, as I have never been night fishing.

What sort of fish hang around there at night? Any other advise would be much appreciated. :D

Zack get a few glowsticks and a three gang or four gang setup and try for a few tailor. You will see most of the guys there casting out unwieghted baits on ganged hooks with a glowstick and retrieving them near the surface.
Good place to learn a few basic skills.

It's not uncommon to get snapper, mullas and small sharks there at night, but its hit and miss. My advice would be don't fish alone, get a long handled gaff and as Midor said, a head light. It's hard work trying to land anything over a couple kilos so that's why you shouldn't fish alone, along with the fact that it can be dangerous. Ive seen someone on here say one from the rocks is worth 10 from the boat and its not wrong. Good luck :)

Scalies

Go to e shed with a bait chaser rig (sabiki rig) and a bag of premix burley. Scalies everywhere. You'll have the best fresh bait available in no time. As for line you will need to beef it up a bit because of the rocks. I usually use 50lb braid with a couple metres of 60lb mono leader snelled with 2 x 4/0 hooks and a running 3 oz star sinker. If you're using braid do your best to keep it away from the rocks; they're not really friends :)
