Noise and snapper

I notice a lot of people are under the staunch belief that they must be crouching tiger hidden dragon to not make a whisper of a noise when snapper fishing, as to not scare away the fish.

I personally think it makes no difference, I just go about no normal business.

What are people's thoughts?

When drifting in deeper water

Mon, 2013-07-01 08:10

When drifting in deeper water (say 20m plus) not concerned about noise but in shallower water less that 10m try to be a little more quieter but not to the point of hiding the dragon!!

Snapper

Mon, 2013-07-01 08:16

Best way to catch snapper is with a noisey cray boat.. Pull up at a spot on the 3mile rev the hell outa the engine and they will come.. Snapper are one fish I recon the more noise the better.. Alway struggle to get them in the tinny but they follow us around all day on the cray boat..

They follow noisy cray boats pulling pots like rabid dogs chasing a cat - mate used to fly fish white clouser flies from the rear corner (before it was made illegal to fish from crayboats) and used to catch many many huge pinkies and have witnessed them following me when diving particularly in the Sound at night so they get pretty damned close to be able to see them and divers are hardly quiet

Thunderous farts on daybreak

Mon, 2013-07-01 09:32

Thunderous farts on daybreak that exceed 15 sec that my regular deckies usually let rip , definately has a negative impact on the fishing ...

The ones

that linger, pheeewww.

But as for noise, I believe the sudden bumps or knocks on the hull, especially if it's ally can make the difference.

Interestingly when I worked on a commercial boat, we were drifting off Gnaraloo in the shallow "with engine idling"and all sorts of fish were going off. I'm talking 10 mtrs.

Also, my mates reckon my 4stoke is a lot quieter than the old 2st but they can sill hear me when I go back for a drift while their down there and it doesn't seem to bother the fish none, 30mtrs.

noise is no problem i reckon.

noise is no problem i reckon. I fish shallow water for night runs and usually have the stereo load and a bunch of guys making a lot of racket and we always get them

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

when chasing snapper i always end up loudly swearing and quietly sobbing. neither have resulted in me getting anything so maybe noise does make a difference...

Okay next time I'm snapper fishing I'll be sure to make more noise and will feel more comfortable when letting a few rip.

Well they have been 4m under

Tue, 2013-07-02 18:01

Well they have been 4m under my boat with it running and have smashed everything I drop. So when there on they prob dont care but when they're playing games it could make the difference!
