electric reels

gday fellow fisho,s,just after some experienced advice again and you lot seem to be pretty helpful ,just a few questions about electric reels.Q are there any particular brands to hunt down? Are there any brands that have been labelled lemons, could anyone recommend a good mid range reel capable of fishing depths of 300 to 500 metres with a spool capacity of approx. 800mtr,s of 80lb braid how long do they last,by that I ask, would 5years plus be asking to much, its usage would be as regular as most fishos I would think ,and finally my local tackle shop has a package deal for $1300 consisting of a "Kaigan 1000,1000 mtrs of braid and a heavy duty boat rod,how does that sound,i,m asking as I simply believe you cant beat experienced advice, cheers seadog

tanacoma bull 1000

Wed, 2013-07-03 05:23

or mega twin are both good Ihave had my bull for 3or4 years now and have had no problems with it ,ocean side are doing some specials on electric combos at the moment ,havent heard of the kaigan 1000 before, mya epoch are another good one around

just found the banax kaigen 1000 for $240.00 new ,seems a bit cheap for electric reel

http://fishingreelbest.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=94

or around 400 on ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_kw=kaigen+1000 so 900 for a rod and line is expensive

cheers for the feedback scottnofish, but I am a little confused on the ebay side of things as it talks in u.s dollars and the pics don't look the same as the reel I saw resterday,i ended up with a webswite of www.smartmarine.co.nz and it is advertising product number.8020276.looks more like what I saw yesterday and price of $735.70,aussie dollar,i am very thankfull for your input cause now I know to be careful not to get burnt,i told the guy at the tackle store I could get one for half the price on ebay and he just laughed at me and told me to show him when I got it assuring me it would,nt be the same quality, which brings me to my next question, where is Oceanside and would you know ballpark figure, thanks again hope to hear back from you ,sounds like you know a bit about them.

Wed, 2013-07-03 06:54

daiwa tanacom bull 1000 im very happy with

the reel should be between 750 -800-( 700 from ebay i paid 50 extra to get the local support if it breaks)

it cost me another 200 for a rod and 200 for daiwa 80 lb braid

so about 1400 the tanacom bulls is well made , the spare motors -if u ever burn one out is avaialble easily from daiwa AU

for about $100 and easy to replace yourself

reel and line from tackleworld miami- mandurah

rod from andrew at stelco tackle (good gear at good prices)

thanks for your input and advice shark1,looks like the bull is the go,just a question on the rod side of things, are they anything special,ie,designed specifically for electric reels,as I have half a dozen heavy duty rods ranging from 40-140lb,would these be suitable they have proven themselves from Pilbara trolling to this new deep sea bug that I have caught?thanks again cheers seadog.

Be careful buyin reels on the net, a lot of brands will only cover warranty if it is brought from a retailer.

Rods

Wed, 2013-07-03 08:53

All depends on how you want to fish .bent but and swivel roller tips if you want to leave it in the holder or any 24 kg rod will do if your going to hold on to the rod while fishing.if your bait fishing your sinkers will be between 1 to 3 kilos so you want a rod that is not already loaded up with just the weights on it

gotta love supporting your local, boys.

Basically, if you want your electric to last more than 12 months, dont just put it in the rod holder and flick the switch. I prefer straight butt, heavy jig rods rather than bent butts - they just get so heavy and cumbersome.
