New reel for surf rod
Submitted by Justin M on Wed, 2013-02-06 20:04
Hi guys, I've got an old 12ft Shakespear contender rod sitting forlornly in the shed pining for a new reel. Looking at running upwards of 30lb mono with decent capacity for the bigger stuff off the beach and am after suggestions on what sort of reel to chuck on it. After getting my new combo I don't have a lot of money left to spend and am not looking at anything flashy, just something that will get the job done...$120 would probably be my upper limit. Cheers

Any idea what brand the braid
Any idea what brand the braid is? Not overly keen on braid given issues with wind tangle I've had before...though that's a minor quibble considering the price....seen these Spinfishers for $150 in shops.

The $100 is an online price,
The $100 is an online price, I don't think any stores are matching that at the moment. I don't know for sure but the braid is probably Rovex Viros, which I think is pretty crap. You shouldn't have a problem with power pro braid so long as you make sure you wind the line in under tension. There's plenty of other good braids out there though or you can just load it up with mono.

Dinga
I try and use local shops when I can but as I live in the country that is not always possible. So I stumbled across Dinga and they are awesome!! They haven't been around that long online from what I can tell but if you sign up with simple details they ship everything for free!! On the reels the currently have the 650, 750, 850 and 950 ssm reels for $85 delivered anywhere in the country. (Btw no affiliation whatsoever just a happy customer!!) http://www.dinga.com.au/
Burley it and they will come.

Ive had plenty of Spinfishers
Ive had plenty of Spinfishers over the years but not a fan due to the anti reverse setup, Not sure if they have changed them or not , maybe the Slammers are worth a go.
