New to Perth
Hi all,
I am new to WA, and new to Australia, I love the idea of having so much prestine coastline and harbours to fish from.
I used to do alot of Fly fishing and bait fishing in my streams/rivers back home, but have not had much chance to get any lines wet here.
Only last Sunday A friend and I got a charter boat off Hilarys, (Not naming names), but found the service quiet poor, no selection of bait, not many fish caught in the 8 hours, and the deck hand and skipper was spending most of the trip telling us to reel up within minutes of us getting to a new drift.
Looked like and felt like there was no preperation or organisation put into the trip.. We felt ripped off and disapointed. (I know fishing is fishing, so rant over)
So back onto topic, I am currently living in North Perth near joondalup, and am wanting to get some tight lines in or around the Hilarys or other areas close by.
Have any of you regular bloggers/fishermen of the area, got any good tips for the newbie me please.
I would like to hit into some tailor, snapper, or even a few skippy on light gear..? What types of bait etc would you suggest.?
Also what type of rod/reels or any info would be much appricated people.
Thanks in advance.
Tight lines and Fat nets.
Wayne.

Gday Wayne firstly
Gday Wayne firstly welcome
Where did you come from and what sort of fishing gear do you have?
Put up some info on your profile
What transport do you have and how far are you prepared to travel do you have a boat?
Hillaries gets all sorts and some of the lads on here fish it often
The E sheds have been a good spot of late with some suprising catches
The beaches around Hillaries are often good for herring and whiting sometimes tailor
Ask away as im sure there are many people who would be willing to share some info

Well men, How ya getting on? Thanks for the replies.
Sorry bout the lack of info supplied, I just did not want to over write anything on the first post.
I am from Ireland, the Emerald Isle. Hence the river fishing experience I have would be alot different to what is on offer over here, But I am looking forward to learing different tricks and tips from living here. I always enjoy the fishing no matter what type.
With the answer to some of your questions, I do not own a vechile, hence the harbours or jeti's would seem the easiest to get to via public transport or by a lift from a friend.
It is a pain, and I know I am missing out on the better spots out of reach of the casual fishermen/women.
I would be hoping to make a friend or two on here that would be willing to take me under their wing and show me the ropes.
Cheers for the heads up "Wafisho" on that alternative spot. If i get a vechile or Know of anyone going fishing that way, I will more than likely get a line in there.
Also, I dont own a boat :( It would be a dream if I did.
The E sheds are at the back of Freo arent they??
I would like to get into some tailor or herring/whitting. Any nice sport fishing for any type of fish would be great.
Yesterday I purchased a small bait rod of 7ft with a decent small reel for the likes of harbour fishing in mind, I was wondering what type of baits/ rigs/ set up's people would recommend for the likes of fishing of the harbour at the back of "aqwa" or around there.?
Any infor would be great. Thanks all.

G'day mate figured you were
G'day mate figured you were from uk or surrounding dad always speaks of his course fishing days ! Mate just couple spots easily accessible two rocks marina wall has nice reef structure in close and about 6-8 m off water or the southern end off ocean reef marina you can cast there right behind a reef I hear both spots are producing pink snapper tailor this time off year tend to thin out there more off a summer fish but if your going to get one either off them spots are a good chance.other than that north mole has had reports of pinkies specially in rough weather. But if you gonna target these I would get a little bit heavier tackle ie 10ft with 15lb min .rigs triple gang 7/0 for whole mullie tail first for tailor for snapper same as tailor or padanoska with occy. Will find fishing dusk into night produce more than day time hope this helps and tight lines.

cheers
Cheers Wafisho.
I just seen the reply today, I dont use the internet that much over the weekend. hence the delay.
Yes the ol course fishing in the Uk is big. Alot of good sport to be had.
With Ireland the emphises is on mostly trout and salmon fishing, in the faster water systems, or the riverrs, which are full of fresh sprats and mature hogs of fish, that are well aware of the anglers tricks. Which makes it great fun on any day on the rivers.
Does anybody know of any decent fly fishing clubs or rivers around WA.??
I'll defo have to have a look at them alternative spots around two rocks etc with the set up and bait you suggested. It would be good sport to get into a few decent sized hungry fish, for teh kitchen table.
I might hold off on the heavier tackle for the moment, I will have to wait for the banking situation to build abit before going hard core. haha :)
