Metro tuna help

Hey guys, i know alot of you are doing realy well catching tuna in the metro area and was wondering if i anyone could offer any advice as i want to target them on the jetski! Most importantly is how far from shore are people catching them, as fishing from the ski im only allowed up to 5NM out. What lures are working the best and what speeds are you trolling at? I bought a Richter Tornado skirt the other day but dont have a clue if thats something you would use to target tuna. Any other info would be great.

Cheers, Beau

Any small skirted lure will work. Took us a while to find the fish yesterday, ended up north of West End in about 50m and hooked plenty there on Richter Flashers and Junior Tornados.

Haha, yeah normally too far for me too, it was just way too nice out there yesterday. I'd be trolling along the 30m line from Mindarie and north to around the gemini.

Richter Jelly babe in pink, or chartreuse, or the new UV. Jnr Tornado is good too, stays down a little better.

pffft

i hate that rule about only being able to go 5nm on a ski, i never abide by it... i always take the ski over to rotto for a surf, get there pretty quick if u dont have much baggage.

Not on a public

Probably not a good idea to say that. You'll never know who reads these forums. It is open to all to read.

I'd agree with you there, 5nm is not much given what the jetskis are capable nowadays. But I think it is more a safety reason for the rule.

oh well!!!

yer i must admit sometimes it is a bit scary when the wind comes in, the rule was probably put in place for those people with fat wallets with a new toy and think it will be piece of cake to get there but its always a different story coming back :s

Bang on there mate

I think the length restriction was put in place to stop cowboys in small boats heading miles out wide. Probably put in place before JetSki's were even used for offshore stuff either fishing, diving or just travelling. As it stands, i can go further out in my kayak than youre allowed to on your JSki!!!

Thought about a bowspit!!

There are vague reports of YFT being caught occasionally, but they are sporadic at best in Perth.

I got some stripers out of Two Rocks a few weeks back.

Anything further south down Mandurah way

Wed, 2010-10-20 11:47

Or do they not make it down that far?

We spent quite a few hours Sunday covering lots of ground north of Mandurah, probably only a 1/4 way to Rocky / GI and not a tickle.

We caught and released plenty on Sunday, we got them in 50m  to as shallow as 18m all the way from Pt Peron to the Nth of Rotto. Also heard reports of some decent YFT around and that's what I'm chasing............

Your right Till, we got our biggest ones north side on Sunday also. They seemed to put up much more fight as well.

YFT over 15kgs would be great fun...........
